Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

The roster is fine. We have a 5 star PG coming in. Still have 2 good SGs. We have Burns. J. Johnson will be a lot bigger contributor next season. Why the hell would Lemonte transfer?
The roster is fine “if” Grant returns. Should Barnes leave I’d say there is no way Grant comes back. James will then attempt to get out of his letter.
Lemonte might then look to transfer to a better situation.
Barnes leaving now really puts the program in a bad way for recruiting if there are defections and transfers. Back to square one IMO.

I am surprise that Barnes would make the move. Thought he might want to retire here in 3 or 4 years. I wonder if he has doubts about UT basketball next year and following years?

I’m not counting any secretaries nor equipment managers. I know their relationship because I know of the people who know about their relationship. You don’t know what you’re talking about but have fun listening to Tony, it’s the blind leading the blind
Holy crap man, you're acting as if Tony is reporting the 2 hate each other. He's not, again please read and consider the context before bashing a guy. Again you have no idea nor do your "sources" about what goes on behind closed doors. Barnes doesn't have an agent so he's not using this for a pay raise, he himself has had contact with UCLA by his own doing.

That Fulmer better step up with what he wants or he's going to take that job. Fulmer probably should've faked it and shown him some more love and interest the past few months. It seems they aren't as chummy as they once were according to sources. As I dug into it last night, one hoops guy I talked to said that having an AD like Fulmer would be a perfect situation because he's basically left alone. Apparently, Barnes is looking for some attention from Fulmer. Or another way to say it is that he's been looking for attention from an AD that seems obsessed with football. Now, will Barnes really take that UCLA position as he's currently bluffing toward doing?

There’s a reason his best offer was Georgia State

Question- would you take Lanier if it was certain Grant and Bone come back for one season or would you take another coach knowing that Bone and Grant aren't coming back for certain?

I know which one I am taking...

According to the LA Times website, Barnes will accept the UCLA job if it is offered and assistant coach Michael Schwartz played at Beverly Hills High School.

Bone is already gone bro. And you most certainly do NOT hire a coach just to keep 1 guy, who isnt even a lottery pick.

Again, Barnes isn't worth the kind of money to Tennessee that UCLA is willing to offer if the $7-8 million/yr figure is correct. We can hire an equally competent coach with less of a name for half that amount. If UCLA is willing to pay that, I won't fault Barnes one bit for jumping.
Can and will are to different things, we are better off keeping what we have, how many ncaa tourneys have we been to in the last 20 years?

Because Tennessee will be a 3-4 year cycle school. We had an upperclassmen heavy team the past two seasons and will be rebuilding. Now we do have a good core returning with the addition of James. Turner, Bowden, James, Pons, Grant (if he stays), Burns, Fulky, and Walker are good enough to get to the tourney as a 5-8 seed.

However getting to be a top team will mean we recruit well for next 2 seasons and then have a team similar to last year where we have a bunch of Sophomores and Juniors who potentially make runs.

I'd take Lanier if everything stayed status quo. Grant, Bone, Josiah James, and Corey Walker don't leave/transfer/decommit. That would a myopic decision with hope Lanier could continue the success on and off the court that could backfire, obviously.

I don’t think it’s going to happen but if some reason Barnes ended up leaving, who are some good options besides Bruce Pearl?
