I hope Barnes stays a few more years and retires with a very stable program in place. I figured UCLA would be all in on Texas Tech's head coach, the guy left UNLV in the middle of the night right after he took their job, he's clearly one that is always ready to go for the next big thing.

There’s not but one person that fits UCLA. Bruce Pearl, he would embrace that lifestyle, he would recruit well and he would win. I could see Rick Barnes going back to Lenoir Rhône before he wo go to UCLA

While that makes sense, Barnes is closer to retirement than Pearl. Question is how Barnes views a path to a natty the the rest of his career. With solid recruiting, UCLA could easily be back to a top program in the country.

UCLA has been idiots with this 4 month coaching search so they could be desperate and want to throw money at top names. Barnes could just be on their list.

Playing Devil's advocate here...

If Barnes leaves now, might there be positives in the fact we are coming off a season where we were a top 10 team? Like we could get a top tier coach who may be a bit younger.

FWIW, I love Barnes and hope he stays but just saying we aren't exactly chopped liver rn.

I don’t see Rick going to LA. It’s not his lifestyle. He’s 65 and near his home and in a comfortable situation.

100% agree. Why leave Tennessee for UCLA? It’s not a better job. End of story. This is all noise folks. Carry on.

It does feel good to have a coach other programs actually want.

Nothing good will result if Barnes leaves.

He aint going anywhere. But Rick Barnes ceiling is the Sweet 16, so I would not be devastated if he left.

If Barnes goes to UCLA then Fulmer makes Bruce Pearl the highest paid coach in the SEC by far. Yes, pay him more than UK pays Cal......Yeah, I said it....

Barnes’ buyout is 5 million. Bruce’s in 6 million. Wouldn’t be tough money wise to get him but let’s be honest, Barnes ain’t going anywhere nor should he.

Only reason he goes to UCLA is he feels it will be easier for him to get a Natty there because of recruiting and less competitive league.

After all, a national title is the only thing he has left to do in his career.

In five years we will either be saying "I wish he woudda gone to UCLA five years ago" or "Fulmer is the greatest AD ever for keeping Barnes here"! I put a hondo on it!

That makes more sense. UCLA and Bruce would be a great move for both
