Saw a clip where analysts were arguing that Duke should retire Zion's jersey. Duke has a policy that you have to graduate and we have our own policy in terms of what honors you have to receive and that you have to leave in good academic standing if you leave early. Theoretically, a player could probably meet our requirements as a one year player but I'm a bit skeptical of the idea of retiring a one and done jersey. Jersey retirements should be as much about your relationship to the university and the impact you had on the overall community as about on the court accomplishments (I think that's why Duke has the requirement of graduating, although that may be a bit too strict).

I'm sure a high character kid could come in and make an impact both on and off the court (and Zion may be that) and if so, I'm fine with that but for the most part the guys that are one and done types don't really leave much of a mark. It's just a one year training period and NBA audition for them.

That's dumb af. ESPN getting high off their own supply (assuming those were the "analysts"). Duke "only" got to the E8, which is a great season by most stretches, but with Duke being tabbed for F4 minimum, you can't act like they weren't disappointed getting bounced, much like we were getting bounced in the S16 round. Super short-sighed take there.

If there's a single one-year player in any sport I can imagine having their number retired, it's Cam Newton at Auburn. Really struggling to come up with another name.

I think this team will be better. But that isn’t saying much.

I think they still have a long way to go to be a 10 win team that competes for SEC championships every year.
agreed. but you gotta start somewhere, and a 7 or 8 win season with a bowl on the heels of a top 12 class, that maybe leads to a top 10 or better class the following year is as good a place as any.

I am usually reticent about such things, but being that it is my wife and not myself, I am more open about asking for intercession. My eternal beloved of 37 years was told today that she is going blind in rapid progression. Anyone who has the ear of the Almighty, your prayers would be greatly appreciated.
There's a line in one of my favorite songs. The artist is Mandolin Orange (yes, I was drawn in mostly because they have the word Orange in their name). The line is "I ain't one to ask much of big men in the sky, but it's all I've got." It's a good song (title is "Big Men in the Sky") if any of you jokers want to give it a spin.

Reading the practice reports gives me hope
Progress is being made
Be competitive and go bowling this year will be a hell of an improvement

We seem to see this every year. Practice reports look promising then the season starts. We all know where that has ended up

Haven't followed at all so please catch me up.

Hearing Hubbs on radio saying RT looked poorly in scrimmage.

Who played there?

Tatum?

I thinks we get 9 or 10 wins This year. And a bowl game win. We Hungry and Pruitt dont play to lose.

all of that is probably true. we still don't have quite the horses we need on either side of the LOS to do that yet, against the top level competition in the SEC. and no one knows if we're going to be consistent enough at anything to beat everyone else on the schedule that's not at the top of the conf.

7/8 wins and a bowl is probably really good progress, all things considered.

and does anyone play to lose? :)

I just want progress...I want to start beating the dogpish out of Vandy, Kentucky and Mizzou, and end that ridiculous loss streak to Mushdump..

Doing that..leapfrogging the SEC dregs..has got to be the first step to recovering our historic rightful place among the SEC elite.

If we do that...the rest will happen.

I saw a huuuuuggeee squirrel running on the side of hwy 33 on my way down to Knoxville this morning.

Does anybody know what kind of squirrel it could be? It was a brownish/reddish color instead of light gray, and looked at least 50% bigger than a regular squirrel.
