The abysmal hires made by UT over the last 11 years have been well documented. However, during the last 4 years Volnation blocked the hire of a football coach who was fired/not retained by Ohio State, then left his new job citing “personal reasons,” AND petitioned for the hire of a now Final Four coach

OFF SUBJECT: Anyone else notice the VFL that are on the move in the NFL?

Patterson, M Jackson, Eric Berry, Justin Coleman, JuJuan James, Witten

Jarod Mayo became linebacker coach for Patriots

In today’s NFL, you move to where the money is offered

In relation to Bring Back Bruce, we pretty much showed Cuonzo Martin the door which turned out pretty nice for us, although he did reach a Sweet 16 in his final year here, a feat not yet passed.

They should hv brought Bruce back... tgat would e been the smartest thing to do... Tyndall and Cuonzo were a waste of time beside Gonzos last tourney run....

But it all worked out as Barnes is doing a good job... however he needs to run off about 2 dead weight players bc we need to bring in 5 new ones this year... we need a stud PG and stud center/ post, to go along with the 3 we hv already...

The "success" of VolNation as it relates to UT coaching hires (or not);
We have many suggestions/demands. Some hit some don't. We remind me of shooting a shotgun as apposed to a rifle. With the shotgun you scatter lots of bullets. Bound to hit something now and then.

Money is what blocked the football hire. Fans were just noise to the ad

Bruce is classic high risk, high reward though. He has his team in the Final Four at the moment, so nobody really wants to look at the negatives of his style. Take a look at his Auburn tenure, and say instead of going to Auburn he had those records at Tennessee.

This fanbase would've wanted him run off at the end of the 16/17 season. "He's lost it," "doesn't have it anymore," etc. Assuming he stayed for another season, VolNation would've been rewarded with a 26-8 record, but that team completely flamed out late in the regular season, SECT, and NCAAT despite sharing a regular season title. They went 4-4 in their last 8 regular season games and had a blowout loss to Alabama in the quarterfinal of the SECT, then snuck by a 13 seed in the Round of 64 before getting destroyed by Clemson in the Round of 32. It was not a strong finish to their season last year.

In any second stint he would've had here, Vols fans would find the play of Pearl's teams to be maddening and stressful outside of the last 3 tournament games. Remember, they almost and should have lost to New Mexico St in the Round of 64!

Damn, people have the attention spans of a 5-year-old.

Hours upon hours of video games do that.

I think this is what really makes me some what glad we didn't hire him back. The guy already messed up bad enough that he had a lengthy show cause and who's to say it won't happen again?

There's plenty of examples of the inverse being true also, but the OP has a point. And it's why I laugh at anyone who says "Leave it to the people who know what they are talking about" or something similar.

The guy can coach basketball, correctly evaluate talent, develop it, and is a personality. I hate it we didn't stick with him over lying about bbq recruiting. Auburn will now be a power in the SEC West in bball as long as he is there.
Three year show cause. Hard to stick with that baggage

Hey, I wanted Bruce back too, but it just wasn't going to happen. He screwed up. And even though I wasn't thrilled with Cuonzo, I didn't disrespect him by signing a Bring Back Bruce petition, because that was stupid. And Tyndall? Just glad that worked out the way it did, because he still reminds me of Peter Lorre. Coach Igor.

Unfortunately, I just saw on twitter Quez Glover just signed with Florida. So, in a couple of years all those against getting him with be gripping about NOT getting him. That's one I was hoping for, now we gotta deal with him.

unlikely since we've both recruited better at that position. Kids first major offer and he jumped. There's a reason

We've made it further only once, and it's been equaled since.

Everybody seems to forget good ole Cuonzo nuked the program on his way out. Got almost two recruiting classes to quit/leave. If the kids CM had signed & on the roster had stayed, TN would have been very competitive.
