2020 Presidential Race

Understood. I guess what I’m asking is for the other side’s view of who is “most electable” or most “palatable.”

I think both sides get caught in their echo chambers and don’t necessarily understand where the middle of the country sits on most issues. So by getting the conservative opinion, I think it would better help me (and Dems) find the center.
Your guy is the best choice so far IMHO. Too bad he can't win the nomination. The Democratic voting pool is full of piranhas who will swallow anything. He isn't offering enough "free" stuff. He doesn't appeal to those voting centers on both coasts.

He’s gaining some steam.

A recent poll had him in 3rd at 11% in Iowa. And that’s with like 55% of voters saying they had never heard of him. So as more people get to know him, the thought is he will only increase.

My view of it, as someone in the liberal base, is that we’re looking for someone other than Sanders and Biden. I like them both, just don’t think someone at that age should be elected.

So there’s a thorough vetting process going on right now - and I think anyone could be the candidate.

I’m a big Pete Buttigieg fan at this point in the race.

I understand most of you all are conservative or conservative leaning, and are going to vote for Trump in 2020. That’s fine and your prerogative.

Here’s my question:

Which Democrat(s) do you think have the best chance in the general election?

Like I said, I understand you won’t vote for them, but which few would be most likely to get your vote?

None of the announced Dem candidates would have a shot at getting my vote or a shot at beating Trump. If Jim Webb (who I personally can't stand) were to run I would vote for him in the Dem primary and general election. But we all know that isn't going to happen.

Gotcha - how would you rank them if you had to? What would be your top 3?

Most electable:

Joe Biden and Pete Buttiegieg

Not entirely out of the realm of possibility to garner the nomination, but would have a tough battle in the general:

Julian Castro, Kirsten Gillibrand and Corey Booker

Too wishy washy and/or too much baggage:

John Hickenlooper and Francis O'Rourke

Too socialist/way too much baggage:

Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris

Too unknown:

Tulsi Gabbard, John Delaney, Jay Inslee

And let me go ahead and say as a disclaimer, if Biden picked someone like Stacey Abrams (reported, but "sources" involved so grain of salt) he's going to do himself more harm than good.

Biden has the best chance because he'll have the machine behind him.

Beto has a chance because he's all about style.

Harris has an outside chance.

Buttigieg is relatively normal but has no chance.

I think our lists are basically the same.

Biden, Buttigieg and Harris would play the best vs. Trump, in my opinion.

Booker, Gillibrand and Castro are traditional candidates but haven’t done anything to differentiate themselves from the top group.

I think there’s a path for Warren and Sanders, but that path is tight and depends on getting really high independent turnout in the Midwest on something like universal healthcare.

I like Beto but he should be running for Senate in TX. Not the presidency.

I don’t take the rest very seriously but could be persuaded.

No way Kamala Harris is anywhere close to the top. The woman has more baggage than a 747.

Biden better worry that his corrupt pos arse and son and family aren't going to jail.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but at this point I’d rather Trump win in 2020 if it meant Graham and McConnel both got voted out. Hell I don’t even care if they’re replaced by another Republican

Can't believe I am actually saying this but I agree with you on McConnel but leave me Graham he has actually been good lately

I think i would settle for middle of the road no rhetoric candidate if i felt he was going to follow through with what he says. I'll even take boring.

What does Buttcrack stand for? The only thing he has going for him is that he is like a backup quarterback.....a blank canvas.

There’s plenty there to like. And I would say although he’s young, he’s more of a throwback Midwest democrat than what we see from others.

Next step after Mayor should be Governor. That is from the Sarah Palin playbook. Not Mayor, then President. He's too young.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but if Trump can be elected out of a reality show and Twitter account then I find it hard to believe a Mayor is ineligible due to experience.

Ehh, Trump ran a multinational private company that dwarfs South bend.
Into multiple bankruptcies and he was carrying so much debt that only Deutsche would touch him.

But to the larger point, I’m not sure that there are “rules” anymore for who is electable and who isn’t. Trump is either a one-off exception or the new standard.
