I think you guys who want to fire Holly need to make a lot more noise if you really want her fired. I mean coming into the season she was ranked #3 for active coaches in the SEC for career winning percentage at 73.9% and now she is at 72%. The 2 players on her team this year with the most playing time were both ESPN 5-star sophomores, one a wing, the other a guard. She signed 2 more ESPN 5-stars to the incoming class, one a guard, the other a 6’5” post. The player on this year’s squad with the 4th most minutes was a Freshman, also an ESPN 5-star guard.

It looks to me like for the most part in the games we lost we didn’t shoot very well. I figure she could win maybe 7 of those 13 next year just on improved shooting alone. I’m telling you it’s going to be a lot harder to fire her next year is she gets to 26+ wins. It’s now or it may be never.

Coach Summit was a once in the life of the universe treasure for our program. If just anyone could measure up to the mark she achieved then she didn’t really stand out all that much after all, did she?

In all seriousness, I suspect getting rid of Holly is one of the last things on Fulmer’s mind at least for another couple of years so if you want to get his attention on this matter I think you really need to consider making more noise, not that I think that will make a difference. But hey, letting off steam sometimes makes a person feel better.

One last thing. I’m a bit pissed off that some of you have made me take a real interest in the Lady Vols basketball program for the first time in my life. Thankfully, spring practice resumes on Tuesday and I can get back to focusing on what is really important. #GLV

First time in I think they said 42 years that Lady Vols didn't reach 20 wins.

If Holly stays for next season she has to make an elite eight to save her job. But I also don't think she'll be fired, I think she resigns. We'll know more about Holly as a coach though this off-season. My prediction is she comes back for one more season to prove to herself, fans, and the players that she's better than this season. Then resigns after a (hopefully) deep run in the tournament.

She's been on a downward spiral for awhile though.

Year 1: 27-8 with an Elite Eight (won SEC regular season)
Year 2: 29-6 with a Sweet Sixteen (won SEC tournament)
Year 3: 30-6 with an Elite Eight (won SEC regular season)
Year 4: 22-14 with an Elite Eight (no SEC title)
Year 5: 20-12 with a loss in the 2nd round (no SEC title)
Year 6: 25-8 with a loss in the 2nd round (no SEC title)
Year 7: 19-13 with a loss in the 1st round (no SEC title

So the real question has to be what happened after Year 3 to change things? I think part of it has to be the loss of Kyra Elzy...she left after year 4 it's the only change to the staff in the 7 years Holly's been the HC

Her first season she inherited an Elite Eight team from Pat and only had 3 new Freshman.

She's got Dean Lockwood, Sharrona Reaves, and Bridgette Gordon on staff. Of those 3 Bridgette is the only with any ties to Pat as a player or coach. Pat also passed in summer of 2016, after Holly's 4th year and last deep tournament run. It was also the last year Pat was listed as Head Coach Emeritus. So maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like Pat had more to do with the first 4 years of Holly's success than Holly since the year after Pat passed and Kyra left the team hasn't won the SEC or made a deep tournament run.

I’m a bit confused about your statement about Bridgette being the only coach with ties to Pat. I’m old. Please restate this for me.

When Holly became the HC Dean Lockwood & Sharrona Reaves were hired. Neither one of them had worked under or played under Pat Summit prior to Holly hiring them they had no direct connection to the Lady Vols.

Actually that's not accurate...about Dean he's been on staff since 2004 according to his bio...but wasn't on staff during Pat's last season? I don't know that's odd.

Sorry, only Sharrona Reaves has no previous ties.

Tough road.. but what would you expect?

Nothing but. It's the Sweet 16 and it should be expected. The team has won the last two, yes ugly at times, but they won. I think Purdue hasn't met as hard a defence as UT's so far the tournament or in regular season play in a while.

Why is this crap in this thread and wtf should I care?

What happened after Year 3 is she lost the last of Pat's players. That was the last year she had team leaders on the floor. The team spiraled downward after Burdick, Massengale and Harrison graduated. The program struggled afterward, but kept afloat with the natural talent of Diamond DeShields and Jaime Nared-- both recruited by Pat-- and took a nosedive after they graduated. No leadership, no accountability and no ownership now.

All of this!!

See that's where I disagree, our fanbase as a whole is so bad about expecting way more than they should from the sports teams.

In 110 seasons Tennessee has only made a grand total of 8 Sweet Sixteen appearances (counting this year) and we've only made 1 Elite Eight appearance in program history, this is only the second team to reach 31 wins as well.

So honestly, we're in the Sweet Sixteen and that's a successful season. Anything more is honestly gravy at this point. I'd love for this team to be the first to make a Final Four, but it's not a "bust" of a season if they don't, since it's never been done in program history.

I am not under the assumption that only blueblood programs can have successful seasons only if they win championships or at least go to the E4. My thoughts come from how good this team can be. They are one of the best teams in program history, but I don't let history dictate the success of current and future teams. This team has the ability to to further than the Elite 8. They squandered the SEC tourny and regular season titles. To come away with none of those and only a Sweet 16 appearance with how good this team is is quite low.

Yeah I agree. Year 4 should have been a banner year honestly, DeShields, Green, Russell, Nared, Reynolds as upper classmen and some really good young talent in Meme Jackson & Te'a Cooper on the roster.

Yeah because you've set the bar far too high already. We played and won during the softest/easiest part of our schedule and you bought into this team going to the Championship or BUST basically.

When they play at their best they can play with anyone in the country, we all know that. But it's a bit unfair to call this season quite low with a team that went 15-3 in the SEC, beat Kentucky twice, made our 2nd straight SEC championship game, and is a 2 seed (only the 2nd time that's happened in program history as well) that is now 31-5 with a chance to win the most games ever by a team and potentially make our 2nd ever Elite Eight.

I'm just saying the adjusted expectations are unrealistic...they've done as well as anyone could hope for honestly. I hope they keep winning too, but I'm not going to act like this season is a failure either if Purdue beats us.

Going back on my words to move on.

Do you watch the games? Serious question. Your post is stats and bio related. Watch the games and compare any top 20 team to what you see from Holly's bunch over the last 3+ years. The differences jump out at even the most casual observer. Any defense of Holly by nature must have zero basketball playing and coaching knowledge attached. What UT is doing by continuing this farce is disrespecting all the work Pat put in over 3 decades. FWIW they won 19 games because there are only about 10 programs that can even attract a roster of top talent annually. But Holly does it Botch's way - don't emphasize recruiting to needs; make who you recruit and sign into what you think you need. Except she can't develop anybody. Result - the same as Botch.

Fans wonder why the football program tubed to record levels of incompetence. Everybody in here in the RF has lamented it for years. Same type things as above. It starts and ends with the people who make the final decisions at UT. Coaching matters. Men's basketball - check. Football - probably check. Baseball - probably check. Women's softball - check. Track - probably check. Women's basketball - a big fat "nope". The response to Holly staying or going will reveal UT leadership's view of LV sports in general since it's the bell cow for women's sports.

Back to football and our men's B-ball run to the FF.

Good post. Agree completely. We just need to enjoy a great season, one of the very best if not the best in program history. We all see the flaws in this team as do the opponents. But when they are energized and focused for 40 minutes instead of 30 they have proven they can beat every team in the country that does not openly own the officials.

Let's act like CRB is capable of doing this more than once in his career here. For one, I think this is just the beginning of a good run for years. This team can be the cornerstone on which a great program is built.

I think Purdue is a tougher matchup than Oregon or Virginia, regardless of seeding. So I like our chances to make the Final Four more if we can beat Purdue, to me they are the biggest hurdle of the 3 possible teams in our way to a Final Four.

We get 4 full days of rest and it's in Louisville, much closer to home. I think the fanbase will turn out and we won't have as many in the stands routing against us. Seemed like despite being geographically close to Columbus the stands were more interested in a UT upset than us winning.

Its natural when you are the highest seeded team there, everyone wanted us out.
