Not impossible but not great. He needs a few more seasons of 40+ goals before we take it seriously. Plus he supposedly wants to go back to Russia to play in the KHL for a few years at the end of his career, which kill it.

There was so much more scoring back in Gretzky’s day that it’s pretty incredible it’s even possible.

If he ends the year at 660 goals, he would need to average 33-34 goals a year for seven seasons. Like if he can get a couple 45-50 goal seasons then he could do it.

Also his game relies so much on his size, shooting prowess, and instincts, not speed he has a chance.

It certainly feels he could stand there in the circle and fire power play goals until he’s 50. Obviously I’d love to see it. I don’t know how serious the Russia thing is; he’s talked about it a few times but not that I know of since he started getting older.
