Meanwhile, Brian Maurer continued to struggle with his accuracy, missing a pair of roll-out outs and getting an earful from Tyler Byrd after one rep.

Pass rushers will need to get more creative if they want to get past Tennessee offensive tackle Marcus Tatum this season. Tatum built up his frame to 315 pounds during the offseason, and he’s seen that defenders no longer simply can overpower him at the point of attack.

“A lot of people are deciding not to bull rush anymore,” said Tatum, a 6-foot-6 junior whose listed weight was 293 pounds last season. “They’re trying to take different routes because usually it was just always a bull rush, bull rush, bull rush, but now it’s just developing. People are trying to expand their pass-rush moves against me because I’m taking off certain avenues that they can do.”

I cant forger how he looked against Bama. Jg still has to have bad dreams.

He does look better. I think he will be a solid player. It's easier to cut 20 lbs than gain 30

I admit that I'm a lot more optimistic about the O-line this season given how much guys have bulked up. Tatum is Exhibit 1, but seems like several other guys are at a much more ideal size as well. Don't want to go overboard, because we're not going from 'worst O-line in the SEC' to 'elite' over night, but hopefully, our RBs aren't getting hit 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage within a half-second this season.

D-line, on the other hand, continues to concern me. We just don't have the depth we need there yet.

Glad to see Will Ignot mentioned in a practice report, nice to see him coming on.

IMO...we don’t talk enough about him...most LB talk I’ve seen is Bituli, Kirkland and the new guys...Ignont is one who I thought would benefit greatly from the real coaching of this staff as opposed to what he was getting from the previous staff...I expect to see a lot more out of him in his second year in the system

This is good news as if you see it enough and improve to the point they can't be successful with it against you, then you can move on and improve other parts of your game. Keep it up youngster!!

In fairness, we hold the staff and other players accountable based on what happens during games. Ignont has yet to do much in actual games. If the lights come on and he shuts down offensive plays coming his way, I'm good. I haven't seen that from him yet, hope I do, but before we annoint him as the 2nd coming of Al Wilson, show me when the lights are on and the game is on the line, not just as a practice field warrior.

What an odd set of posts replying to nearly identical situations.
Neither stands out last year, both putting in off season work to improve and both get noticed.
You praise one, scoff at the other and say not until he proves it on the field. Which obviously neither can do due until fall.
Just odd.
