He should be contributing on the boards and defensively. Rebounds, blocks, steals...hell, maybe an assist or two? Something other than points. He's arguably the best athlete on the team. To put up goose eggs in 10 min of playing time...well...that's hard to imagine.
He's an ok defender. He's athletic and long so he basically just provides a matchup consideration for the other team on that end of the floor... The goal being with everyone else who's on the floor for us, can we get pons in a favorable one... Make the other team pick their poison.

But I agree if he ever develops his game on the other end or becomes a dominant rebounder, he could be a game changer for us

Pons is another Kyle type, his senior season he'll be there and we'll all wish he had one more season.

We're getting good bench play from Fulkie & Bowden, if a 3rd bench guy can come in and give us anything then we would be pretty unstoppable. Problem is I don't know who that guy is...Walker, Pons, Jalen?
All three of those guys need to develop going forward...

Just one rebound. One block. One steal. One assist. This is why I hope Barnes keeps recruiting basketball players vs athletes who he might be able to "develop". Right now we have 3 bodies on the bench that have me scratching my head wondering why?

Well, pons has two more years and he is a physical freak... And I just explained some of the reasons why.

It's only been very recently where we've actually started recruiting and landing some upper tier talent in the trail.

The staff had to develop the roster... The good news... They have.

In the 3 games we lost we have been outshot 47 from the free throw line. In 3 halves we didn’t even shoot a free throw. I don’t think that is for no reason.
There is no bias.

In the three games we’ve lost, we’ve also been more timid and allowed the other team to dictate the tempo and the play style.

Has the officiating been “bad” at times? Absolutely. But there’s no bias and no reason the big, bad SEC wouldn’t want this team of 3 star players with their cleanest coach winning as many games as possible.

And you think as much Kentucky blue as there is in Nashville that the SEC and the businesses in Nashville don’t want UK in finals? Why do you think UK dominates the SEC but in the last 10 years Cal has been there only won 1 national championship. Calls don’t go there way as much when they sec ACC/Big10/12 officials. Why do you think Cal complains about the NCAA will send them as far away from home and in the toughest bracket.

2 of those halves were against UK. Best line for game today is over/under UK shooting 15 more free than us.

If that's accurate, it means one of those was in Knoxville. I just checked. In the second half at Knoxville, UK 13 FT attempts. UT 0. If that can happen there, you know it's going to happen in Nashville. UT will have to play their best game of the year to win today. I'll be curious to see who the refs are.

Another interesting stat from that half. UK was in the bonus after the first 10 min of the second half. UT got hit with 3 fouls in the first 2:15 and they got two quick ones on Schofield a bit later.

The refs in Knoxville were: Don Daily, Byron Jarrett, Joe Lindsay

You do understand the definition of "bias", right? When an official does not enforce the rules of the game as written, but emphasizes one aspect over others - that's bias. When an official anticipates a foul and makes a call without clearly seeing same first - that's bias. When an official overwhelmingly calls fouls against one team and virtually nothing against the other team - that's bias.

The play of the team may not be optimum, but disavowing bias of officiating that influences the outcome as a result is bit silly. They are exclusive issues that determine the result.

The reason we've been timid is because the officials haven't allowed our players to play aggressively, calling everything that has the appearance of a foul. While, at the same time allowing much more contact of the other end of court. This has been especially true in regards to KY. Even the game we beat them, we had to overcome biased officiating.

The SEC protects both KY in basketball and AL in football.

In the bad officiating versus biased officiating column - most of us can tell the difference. Any official who consistently allows the Euro step is a bad official. It's not allowed in the rules. It becomes biased when one team plays by the rules and the other does not having allowed for the Euro step in practice and games. The bad official becomes biased by allowing the offending team to do it when the other has embraced the rules.

Bad officiating is allowing opponents to beat, hack and shove Grant and Admiral all game long because they are big and strong. Those actions are against the rules and should be called fouls regardless of the strength of those two. Just because Grant and Admiral can frequently overcome the fouls and score or rebound does not give the officials the right to ignore calling the fouls. Which they repeatedly did last night and do in most games.

I almost wish Pons would redshirt.
Barnes has stated he wished he could have redshirted Alexander but couldn't because of the need. Think this could be the case with Pons though the player also needs to express the desire to redshirt (two way street). Perhaps Pons observed how both Admiral and Grant developed their games and will follow their path.

Going back to the first game in Lexington, we did not shoot a ft in the first half and we were down 6. They called 5 fouls on us and 3 on UK. Of those 3 fouls Washington picked up one in the first 30 seconds of the game and did not get another foul called on them until the under 4 media timeout. They called 8 totals fouls in the first half. Second half Tennessee was called for 7 fouls in the first 5 minutes of the game. Tell me how you call 8 fouls total (both teams included) for a half and then 7 against one team in the first 5 minutes of play of the second half?
