Update on my situation and doctor appointment. They moved it up a day. Brain scan showed, I’m having mini strokes, that is what she started with. I thought that was bad enough, then tells me, I have a fracture in vertebrae. Ok, I m thinking, at least no tumor in brain. Then the bombshell, “we are not even concerning ourselves with the fracture and mini strokes. Apparently, in my neck area, if I pickup anything heavier than 5 lbs, push or pull anything, it paralyze me from neck down. I didn’t even know I had a problem there. Most of you know my job and this creates a problem.

Oh no. Are they gonna do surgery?

Yes, gotta happen fast, dealing with VA though. I’m sticking to my humor. I’ve got this. 😁
Yikes! Good thing they found it, though. Is this like the cervical spine issues that knock some athletes out of sports? (oldest Manning kid, etc)

What will they be doing, a fusion? Is it related to the fracture?

Thoughts and prayers for you! Wow, the Zoners are really going through it these days!

I really don’t know about cervical issues in athletes yet, believe me, I will look it up in next few days. The fracture is totally separate from the neck thing. That’s what scary, they didn’t even want to talk about the fracture at all, just neck. How’s the mom in law situation going for you? Bet you’ve been overwhelmed.

Thanks, that's very kind of you to ask in the middle of all this!

She got worse (more delusional), and then over the last four days has gotten better. It's very interesting to see how DH can be more sensible and rational about my mom, and I'm the same about his mom. It's very hard seeing your own parent change so dramatically, and it's somehow easier to deal with it when it's someone else's mom. We still feel incredibly blessed that she was able to move to Givens Estates for assisted living. The staff that have the most contact with the residents (the CNAs and LPNs, the dining room staff) are incredibly patient, kind, and good-humored and (so far) very tolerant of her occasional fractiousness. The same is true of the higher-ups, but it's the daily contacts that seem to matter. I think they're killing her with Southern kindness! ;-)
