Got a free Roku when went from cable to slingtv a year ago. It does it's job and for me was free. So my suggestion is to look and see who is doing a promotion so maybe you can try them each to see which one you prefer.

The Roku Ultra has an earphone jack in the remote that mutes the TV when you plug in. Best. Thing. Ever. The only time I ever get to watch anything is when everyone else is in bed, and I can sit there at night and hear GoT or whatever in all its glory.

I have both. I've found the Roku to be a little faster than the Firestick, but both are pretty good devices.

Yeah, it used to be that I had to keep the volume low to keep from disturbing the wife and kids, so I would pull a chair up close to hear it. And even then its a lesser experience when you're straining to hear. Now I can just sit in the easy chair and enjoy. That feature alone makes the Roku worth it for me.
