Looks like St. Mary's stealing a bid may have pushed UF out of the tournament. A couple more stolen bids and they've got no hope of making it. Bama is right behind them as well.

I have been arguing with a few co-workers that the SEC really only has 6 teams that should be in the NCAA. Anyone think Gonzaga laid down on purpose? I didn't watch the game, based on minutes didn't seem like they really rested anyone and now the conference has 2 teams in, instead of just one.

shhhhh, we're trying to sleep!

My understanding:
As fans, we tend to exaggerate issues, NO doubt. But there are issues and bias in college sports, always has been.

When someone makes a series of posts pushing the concept that the judging uses zero bias, the take is questionable. It's basically pushing the idea that those judges are above human nature. It's borderline ridiculous to even suggest.

When someone goes too far with terms like "tinfoil hatters" 🤔

A few here seem so determined to appear above fan bias, they tend to appear somewhat blind to obvious situations where bias does happen.

Strange hill to die on but some just want that 'non bias fan' title so badly.

My take anyways.

Always be bias I agree, but what is being suggested is overwhelming bias for zero gain. AP voters and an LSU player? Doesn't even fit the "blueblood favoritism" model...what is the conspiracy now?

My PoV is some always want to blame others for shortcomings and that's a loser's mentality I don't buy into. Take responsibility and no excuses. What good does it do whining everytime something doesn't go our way? Just digs you deeper into an external blame mentality and just feels very childish.

just my .02. Don't really care, but it gets old with the constant boohooing sometimes. Like grow up, how do some people get through life?

Teams don't do this. Wisconsin didn't blow the 2014 Big 10 Championship so Ohio State would represent the conference in the CFP. Gonzaga didn't throw the game last night to get another team from the WCC into the tourney. No way

I probably agree with you, but I think that's a terrible example. In football, the conference championship is almost always played for one spot in the playoff.

Do you think we would do it for....say....South Carolina in the Finals of the SECT?

I think his overall defense is better, even though he had fewer steals.

Yes but how would that be measured? Wonder if there is an advanced stat for opponent fg% maybe? But yes Waters had over 4x the steals, sure that didn't hurt haha. Also had higher PeR. But I also think it really helped because he's also his team's best player by far. Bone's exposure has been buried under Grant and Admiral sadly.

1: 16-2
2: 15-3 (two teams)
3: 11-7 (two teams)
4: 10-8 (two teams

What that means is that 10-8 is the 4th best record in the conference...I'm not dumb, I know that essentially when multiple teams have the same record 15-3 becomes a tie for 2nd, and then now 11-7 is actually a tie for 4th instead of 3rd, which then makes 10-8 a tie for 6th instead of 4th.

It's not hard to follow...regardless of all that 10-8 is by the numbers the 4th best record in the conference.
Your original post was "And Ole Miss was tied for 4th... "
That's the only reason I replied to begin with as your original statement was not correct... you then changed your statement to "4th best record".

Using you logic, you could have also said that Vandy had the 10th best record in the SEC at 0-18 instead of stating Vandy finished in 14th or last place. All that matters is where a team finished.

Honestly I -mostly- don't believe games are fixed, but basketball specifically has a history of tampering. It's the easiest of the sports to do it in as well.

Looks like the Zags played tired and were unmotivated, they really didn't have much to gain from winning last night. And shot absolutely TERRIBLE from 3, so maybe that's it...still a team that's #1 in the country only scoring 47 against a team they had faced and beaten twice (once by 48 points)...I mean has to raise an eyebrow at least? You beat Saint Mary's by more than you scored in the championship game...

Not in a million years. Not in an athlete's makeup. SM playing with a ton of motivation sure helps though. Zags played a garbage schedule as well.

Well in the original conversation I compared UT's seeding (3rd) to Ole Miss (6th) and was stating that UT had essentially backslid from last year and finished lower this year, while Ole Miss had climbed from a worst record in conference finish last year. A different poster then stated UT finished 2nd this year so I was countering that point by saying then Ole Miss was tied for 4th. Because they would be if we're purely looking at the record and not the seeding which it appeared that poster was doing, you then chimed in and here we are...I changed my statement to clarify the point for you to better understand what I was meaning.

Don't believe I've ever "boohooed" but I do recognize when someone starts defensive name calling etc.. just because their hot take isn't the general consensus.

In fact, I would suggest that would lean an awful lot towards "childish"

Not you. Just the collective. Don't even know how you got wrapped up in this haha. Yeah I shouldn't use ad hominens, but they slip sometimes. My bad. Carry on friendo.

To be fair people see/read what they want to.

@smokeyz1 and I's back and forth highlights that...in my first reply to him I said what I meant, but we kept carrying on anyway.

My understanding is 6th years are no longer a thing...? It used to be you could use 1 regular RS and 1 medical, right? Swore Callahan said medical RSs were done away with when the less restrictive redshirt rules came about.
Not sure if grad transfers get some kind of restart on medical redshirts (or something).

We could ask Baker Mayfield, pretty sure that guy had grandkids while still at OK.
