I'd argue a bit less. He's 1 man, coming off an injury, and plenty to prove. Not like we're adding Derek Barnett. But he should be a big upgrade over next man up, partly because there's just not much there.

Depth and DE is still stupid bad by SEC standards. If we saw UF or UGA with our DL depth chart we'd be licking our freaking chops. LB corps will have a lot on their plate.
Lot of guys still coming this summer, including Williams who may compete to start. I’m not saying we have Bama’s DL, but we can have a pretty good DL if Solomon gets his waiver. His injury wasn’t serious and he was very productive as a freshman. Guy is a freak. We know what we have with Gooden and can expect him to be even better. Then there’s the third spot for Mincey, Emerson, and Williams to fight over. Hopefully we stay healthy there tho

We're thin at both OL and DL going into the Spring, but I give the edge of experience to the OL. They've seen more playing time.

Baseball is for kids, stay at home moms and nursing homes. The rest of us are too busy for that sport.

Bo couldn't hear you, there was some nose around his ears...

Complete opinion, but you have to wonder about his work ethic and time management. First, with his college career on the line, he BARELY makes it in. Then he comes in completely out of shape...so the guy is incapable of balancing passing 1 exam with keeping in shape, which is basically his job at such point.

Just feels like he may be the anti-Dobbs right now. Seems like he needs some serious time managment and mental fortitude training.

I said this back in August and it wasn’t received well. So now, we just wait and hope for the best. Personally, I’m still firmly in line with this, and I’m aware he’s a RS freshman with plenty of time

New offensive coordinator Jim Chaney fulfilled his walk-around role dutifully on the first day of practice, spending ample time with the offensive line and tight ends before shifting over to the quarterbacks and receivers during the routes on air. Chaney, well-known for his boisterous personality out on the practice field, was constantly coaching and hollering.

Even with a slew of walk-ons, the offensive line is clearly shorthanded. With the “main group,” there wasalmost as many guys observing practice (Chance Hall, Trey Smith, Tanner Antonutti and Brandon Kennedy, who is limited just six months off ACL surgery) asthose participating. Newcomer Wanya Morris worked a bit at guard but most every rep came at left tackle.Jahmir Johnson has clearly taken a leadership role in the unit, too, and appears cemented at left guard.Notably, those working at tackle were Nathan Niehaus, now up to 304 pounds, Marcus Tatum and K’RojhnCalbert, who talked took reps at guard. Jerome Carvin lined up solely at guard.

*** Position updates: Jeremy Banks remained at tailback, as expected, while Latrell Bumphus worked with the defensive line, also expected. Deangelo Gibbs was at wide receiver. While Chris Rumph told fans he “won the lottery” with Quavaris Crouch, the freshman was worked with the inside linebackers Thursday. Meanwhile, Maleik Gray was back at defensive back, repping at safety. Other players who remained at their spots from last season included Kivon Bennett, now 15 pounds lighter at outside linebacker, and Ja’Quain Blakely, still with the defensive line.

Tracy Rocker must holler at the mirror during the offseason because I can’t imagine Tennessee’s defensive line coach not being made about something year-round. Rocker was salty as all get out once again on Day 1, as Kingston Harris and Greg Emerson both drew his ire early in the open period Thursday. Meanwhile, Latrell Bumphus looked a bit small but moved really well at the spot. Emmit Gooden and John Mincey, now 280 pounds, led the group. Former 5-star and Michigan transfer Aubrey Solomon didn’t take aton of reps.

New defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley spent all the individual periods working with the safeties, while Jeremy Pruitt handled the cornerbacks. Alontae Taylor and Bryce Thompson both looked good, as did Terrell Bailey, who ran No. 3 in all the reps and appears to have added some bulk. During line-jam, 1-on-1s withthe wideouts, the DB’s won the day. In a much calmer demeanor than he was on the practice field much of last season, Pruitt patiently explained technique errors to Warren Burrell and Kenneth George Jr. As for the receivers, Jordan Murphy looked good, same for Josh Palmer.
