Windy's basketball discussion thread

"Wing" makes me think of hockey and soccer. Basketball has been center, forwards, and guards... When did they start calling players, "wings?"
The wing is an area on the court. Wing players are usually forwards who shoot and play from the “wings”.

But SGs and SFs are commonly referred to wing players, lining up on the three point line on the wings. They’ve been called wings my whole life. I played into high school, numerous intramurals since, have coached kids and been a ref. I honestly don’t know another name to call the wing area of the three point line.
