I thought it was pretty funny.

So you're looking at what's been going on behind the scenes instead of his recent record and way of handling it?

Not completely behind the scenes stuff no.

I think a few things that I will openly say, at the risk of taking this thread off topic.

1) I think that it's too soon this season to know if the entire offensive staff change is going to be better or worse. (Look at ND when Weiss got there, Michigan, Auburn, Florida during Meyer's first year, and countless others.)

2) I think, as much as I like him and his family and I mean no disrespect when saying this, but, Jonathon Crompton has been asked to be a QB that he isn't. Jon is not a "smart qb" and what I mean is that he is not the type of qb that Cutcliffe was used to working with, one that you can tell go run a 42 split cross 32 waggle and while in the pocket, run through your progressions in your head vs the defense that you saw when you came to the line and know who the open receiver should be based on the matchup, and throw to him. I think Jon is a playmaker, and if you give him the ball as they did vs. LSU and say go make us some plays, he will do it. But he is NOT the QB that needs a complex new system (his third in 4 years btw) to figure out as he goes. The staff realizes this and has "simplified" things for him. We will see what happens.

3) Fulmer has done all the things I know he is responsible for off the field better than most every coach in his profession and when it comes to getting his team in position to win championships on the field, he has done that more than any coach in the SEC other than Spurrier, who has had a much longer dry spell than Phil. Phil has not always won the "big game" and when it comes to getting to the "big game" and then losing it, it's not always the coach's fault (see Jim Tressel). Other factors are always at play and must be looked at when making a decision on what to do with a coach's job.

4) If Fulmer doesn't make the changes on the fly this season, to have the Vols in the HUNT for a Championship near seasons end, I do think that major changes will be made that will include job changes, title changes and personelle changes. However, I have a feeling that by season's end, things will be looking much better on Rocky Top.

We'll see. Either I will be right and there will be a LOT of people realizing they were quick to the draw, even downright disrespectful at times or I will be wrong, and I'll just look like a loyalist that didn't fully understand reality. Even if I end up wrong, I would prefer that side of things as to realizing that I put personal feelings, that were unfounded ahead of loyalty.

A direct quote form Gundy that says, "He does everything right, but may not play as well on Saturday."

I did my best to keep the original words and intent as much as possible. I knew it would be more funny and impactful that way. In the script I wrote I even bolded the words Gundy yelled so I would. I did it all on one take, and I was only 3 seconds faster than the original when I finished.

Great example. Hundreds lose their jobs to outsourcing and poor quarterly sales numbers, so why should this type of business be any different. Like it's been said before, college football is a business, and if you look at it that way Fulmer is running this business right toward bankruptcy.

Wasn't Fulmer also in charge of Fannie Mae! :naughty:

I don't want to get into it because that will turn this into ANOTHER Fulmer thread, but I will say that I believe that I understand things more than most because of some of the people I know in life (and I don't mean in Knoxville in the A.D.). I have a more REALISTIC outlook that lets me understand what exactly a head coach's job is and its not what a lot of people here say it is, it is MUCH MUCH more involved and that in almost every area, Phillip Fulmer does his job better than most in his profession. There are times he does not get things done in the win column, but he makes adjustments and MUST be given time for those adjustments to pan out. The time to fire him or for him to leave is not now in my opinion and I just believe that those that think it is time, are fundamentally wrong because of a lack of understanding of the complete situation.

We've had similar problems for many years. His adjustments have had tons of time to pan out. His unwillingness to make adjustments and then poor efforts once forced are a couple of big reasons he doesn't do his job better than most in the country.

In other words you think you are smarter, regarding this topic, than the rest of us.

I think I have more knowledge because of people I know and careers I have been around than the casual fan. So as it pertains to this situation, I have a feeling I have more expierence than most.

I do not think I am a "smarter person" than any one person on this or any board. I do not personally know anyone on this board and to say I am smarter than anyone would be a foolish statement.

Please don't put words into my mouth. I am being very careful to make sure I am not offending anyone. :good!:

So how does it feel to have been on ESPN?

When I first realized it made it on, I was pretty excited. It's neat to know that the people you watch every day are talking about you, and something you spent time doing and talking good about it.

That being said, I will put on my pants tomorrow, the same as everyone else here, so I don't think it makes me any better than anyone else.

In regard to...
1. I don't have a problem with Clawson and company when it comes to offensive sets and plays. I realize that it's going to take a while to get an offense in, and a mental error will happen every once in a while. The thing I do have a problem with is how this team is not motivated and still hasn't gone on record saying they want to change much.
2. That seems pretty obvious so far. Crompton's got physical talent, but he's just not the guy we need to run this offense.
3. Fulmer's gotten us to the big game, but to say that losing that game doesn't go directly back to the head coach is silly. His bowl record of 8-7 plus a bowl-less season and SEC Championship record of 2-3 speaks for itself. He's not a big game coach.
4. I want to see things change, but I just don't see it. He's gone on air saying these are some large challenges that he's going to address, not something that can be changed over a week or two.

Who knew that the Dalai Lama had registered at Volnation?

Please.....it's amazing the standards I am held to around here to be allowed to keep a membership, only to have the staff call me out and put words into my mouth. I've taken care to explain very carefully what I mean when I say I have a better understanding. It's not meant to be offensive to anyone and doesn't deserve redicule. :hi:

I guarantee you don't have a better understand than quite a few of the posters on here. "Most" of the posters aren't your typical "fire everyone because we lost one game and I'm really drunk so I'm overreacting to everything" fan. Sure there are those on every forum or message board though.

In fact - there's a lot that are pretty important people that are on the inside. Of course - most don't openly make that known.

I'm not ridiculing anything. My observation is that it is incredibly presumptuous to somehow believe that your life experiences somehow offer you more insight than the next guy whose experiences you know nothing about.

I am not trying to put words in your mouth so I did qualify it with the statement “regarding this topic”. I just wanted to understand your thinking.

Now that you have clarified, I dare say, IMO, it sounds egotistical. I think that there are plenty of people just as knowledgeable on “this topic” that feel differently than you. Your dismissal of their point of view as being less knowledgeable seems condescending.

Wouldn't that work both ways then? Wouldn't it be presumptious of you to think my life expierences WHICH YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, ARE less insightful than anyone else's?

I never said I was the smartest person on here. I never said my expierences made me better than anyone, or made me right and others wrong. I merely said I have more expierence than the CASUAL fan that gets on here, the radio and where ever they can and repeats their favorite radio personality's rant because it seems the "cool" thing to say right now.

Its pointless to explain myself to anyone here because there is such an air of negativity that any time someone that is supportive says something, it's turned into a homeristic view that MUST be void of actual knowledge or understanding. IF I disagree with the populous, I MUST be wrong, and I MUST be arrogant for defending myself and my view. How dare I?

THAT is why I try to stay clear of Fulmer threads and "take up" for him and THAT is the WHOLE reason I made the video and made it in the manner in which I did. I wanted people to be able to laugh for just 3 minutes and 16 seconds of the day instead of using that time to personally go after someone with a different opinion. (I'm not saying YOU do this, GAVOL, I'm just using this reply to you to get all this off my chest so I can close the topic.)

Are you sure that you are not too close to the program to be objective? It would not be the first case of idol worship.
