We have an elite farm system. We better hope they pan outY’all can be all doom and gloom you wanna be but I’m going into this year knowing we can compete for the division and we still have, by leaps and bounds, the best farm system in the East.
Future is still bright - even if the competition is tougher.
Well yeah I am definitely exaggerating but the simple point is they are paying him for 13 years hoping the first five or six are historic years from a baseball perspective. I don't think you're expecting years 10, 11, 12, and 13 to be Bonds-like.
You have a ton of what if’s in this post. But we have gotten worse at RF, catcher, and in the rotation possibly since we lost Sanchez. I love Touki, but he’s an unknown. Soroka too, but he’s not only an unknown, he can’t stay healthy either. We don’t have a clue if any of those pitchers will turn out. None of them are proven. Newk was terrible the 2nd half. Is he first half Newk or 2nd half Newk? Who knows? What I do know is that the Braves have spent $29 mil while our division rivals have all spent over 100 mil some even over 200 mil with the Phillies hitting 400. Braves haven’t even made a significant trade with all of this prospect capital. They are more concerned with real estate than baseball. I don’t see how any of us can deny this when we compare their numbers to the division rivals and when you read their own comments from that athletic interview. It’s an absolute jokeOzzie is 22, what if he improves over last year?
Acuna is 21, what if he improves over last year?
Dansby is 25, he can definitely improve over last year.
Freddie is old af at 29 obviously. As is Ender at 28. Julio should retire being so old at 28.
Touki is 22, Soroka is 21, Allard is 21, B Wilson is 21, Gohara is 22, Newk is 25, and Fried is 25...
I'm not sure how you surmise the team is worse. A large majority of the contributing team is under 25. They are not even at the most productive years of the average MLB player (late 20s).
Could they have a fall off from last year? Of course, it's baseball. Could they make last year look like a joke with monster numbers this year? Of course, it's baseball.
I'd rather have a pool of young players that have already seen the field and tasted playoff baseball versus spending 100s of millions to look up a single player. The folks that run this world (the banks) diversify their criminal activities... I mean... investments.

I don’t disagree. But we’re better than last year too.
And we’re not done making moves. Maybe not by opening day, but we’ll do something.
I agree that we should have already done more. I’m with you 100%. But it’s not like we’re out of the hunt.
Our team as it stands CAN win the division still. And we’re going to add more.

If Camargo is producing like last year, he’ll be on the field in place of someone who isn’t contributing. So it’s not Donaldson in place of Camargo. It’s Donaldson in addition to Camargo. How so?
As others have said I'm not convinced that Donaldson is better than Camargo. We let our best all around catcher go (also to a Division rival) we bring in a catcher on the backside of his career that did not play very well last year. That statisticly with Flowers are two of the worst fielding catchers in the league.
I don't even want to get into the fact that Nick Markakis will once again be our starting right fielder and likely batting cleanup.
Anyone this team brings in now will be roleplay guys (who will likely have to be googled).
LOL, Camargo won't be on the field unless someone is on the DL or it's a day after night game.If Camargo is producing like last year, he’ll be on the field in place of someone who isn’t contributing. So it’s not Donaldson in place of Camargo. It’s Donaldson in addition to Camargo.
Catcher is worse, but I’m not sure by how much. Let’s see what McCann gives us before freaking out.
Re-signing Markakis is the one head scratcher, sure, but hopefully Camargo and Duvall claim those at bats.
I’m not sure any player we add now are roleplayers. There are plenty of moves to be made between now and the deadline.
I am looking forward to seeing what Acuna and Albies can do this year but I have no delusions that we're going to compete for a championship and I don't think we'll finish in the top 2 in the division either. No one is arguing we should be happy or content. I’m just saying, even as currently constructed, we can still win the division and I am looking forward to the season.
