So let's eat the cows. Wait.... we can't do that either because then PETA gets mad.

Why would they get mad, I thought peta stood for people eating tasty animals...

The last thing Fulmer wants is another coaching search right now, especially for a program with a divided fanbase that's going to mount opposition from all directions. Holly could decide she's had enough. If she wants another year before retirement, Fulmer's in a tough spot. No matter what he does or doesn't do, there will be a lot of unhappy people and much rabble-rousing. Not smart to let the program decline to this level and allow the situation to become this inflammatory.

My sister and brother-in-law have had Lady Vols season tickets since the 90s. She’s never missed a home game ( travels from Lawrenceville, GA) or tournament games...until this year. They still have their tickets but it kinda breaks her heart to watch...she loves Holly but is ready for the change that is necessary.

As a side note - I grew up in Kingsport in a neighborhood of all boys so I was quite a tomboy. There were zero team sports, other than tennis and track, for girls. Half court basketball was taught in gym. I played baseball, football (tackle), and basketball with the boys in my neighborhood starting when I was in elementary school until I graduated high school. My mother wouldn’t let me buy a baseball glove (I’m left handed) because she didn’t want to encourage my unladylike behavior. I played with my little brother’s glove - he’s right handed. When I went to college, I tried to use the proper glove but memory muscle had set in. I was a pretty good left fielder but couldn’t get the ball out of my glove and shake off the glove and change hands and throw fast enough to play the infield.

When I played intramurals at UT was practically the first time I played sports with all girls. When I went to the women’s gym to watch Pat’s Lady Vols play was the first time I’d seen a coach coach ladies with the same intensity and expectations as the men’s coach. She inspired me in so many ways. Her expectations - I just can’t really explain how she affected me. Wanting to win and working to win weren’t “unladylike” at all but were expected and celebrated. It sorta set me free.

I’m not seeing that level of intensity and expectation in our Holly-coached Lady Vols and I haven’t seen it in a long time. It’s important in so many ways that we not lose it forever. We will, if we wait any longer. I know, tldr.

I greatly respect that story. However I have to say, there is no other Pat Summit. There was only one. I don't know what you all expect to walk through that door but it won't be her.

I don’t expect her - she is the only Pat Summitt that will ever be - but I expect a coach to coach with her expectations, with intensity, with desire, with knowledge, and with ability. I expect a coach who can take these talented players and turn them into a great basketball team. There’ll never be another John Wooden either but does that mean there can’t be great men’s basketball coaches today?

No coach will have that. Are there good coaches out there? I'm sure there are but not of that ilk. I just feel like everyone has these over the top expectations for womens basketball. It was because of the coach. The chances of that kind of success returning are slim to none.

Maybe you’re right, but I won’t lower my expectations for the Lady Vols any more than I lower my expectations for the Vols Football Team. I’d rather try and maybe come up short than not try at all.

PS - I appreciate the conversation

I just feel like the expectations are unfair. Fire her because we miss the tournament? I mean that happens to everyone. It never happened to us because we had Summit. We don't anymore, time to temper a bit or no coach will ever want to come here.

It’s not just that she’s missing the tournament. It’s that she’s missing it with top 5 talent, because she can’t coach herself out of a wet paper sack. So, what can she do to make her team better? Recruit better? She already has some of the best talent. So that doesn’t work. Hire better assistants? She’s had 7 years and hasn’t. She has had 7 years to improve her own coaching, and things have just gradually gotten worse with every year. Only one thing left to do...fire her and find someone else that actually can coach. The Lady Vols is a national brand and will sell itself for recruiting.

@bignewt - OGbabyaviVol is right. My hope is she “decides to retire” but either way, we need to find a Coach for our Lady Vols.

Wooden didn't have to coach very much. They were able to buy the best players in in high school for a long time.

This is wrong. So wrong. Back yard bbq isn’t great. Are you looking for bbq? Or just anything?

Tulum is a Mexican restaurant with great fish tacos. The blacksmith downtown is great (though kinda slow). If you are looking for a beer and a slice, try rock n dough. Or Picasso out north.

BBQ? Baker brothers bbq downtown.

@Big Gucci Sosa

I second the vote for Tulum. Haven’t been to the new location but the original is good. I haven’t been to Picasso in a while either but it was always good back in the day. I just do drive thrus now because I’m old.

Not so much anymore. They came for Pat.

It’s not unreasonable with the talent she has. She just cannot develop the talent. I get what you are saying, but we are the UK of women’s basketball. Have to shoot for the stars and keep an elite program.

Thanks for the information. Do you know how many LV movers and shakers (if that's the right term) still believe in Holly? I just don't see how anyone with half a brain believes she can turn it around.
Yep, I don't see a divided fan base on firing Holly. She has to go and go now, we have plenty of talent on this team but if a change isn't made this year that will change soon.
A bad Lady Vol basketball program just isn't an option...
