His paragraph said fast SKILL players, not D. The SEC has always had fast D. What I am saying is that you don't have to run the spread or just be a bunch of track guys to win in this league.

Fulmer is not smart enough to change his gameplan and still be a smash mouth team. I believe it is possible to win a NC and be a F150. Though I would prefer a Chevy Silverado.

But I do not necessarily agree about the speed and Porshe thing. You can still win in this conference with smash mouth football. Bama has done it so far this year. And while they haven't played an elite team this year, they do look pretty good.

As a matter of fact Vandy finished their wins over USC and Ole Miss exactly in that fashion.

Don't get too literal gs. This is much more of an analogy about frame of mind than age.

As always I appreciate all of the kind words and the criticisms.

Some people who have a frame of mind have bend framing square, is all I have to say about that.

I always appreciate your fine articles.

The F-150 reference though reminds me of the poor homeless lady who knocked on a door of a Belle Meade mansion, telling the owner of her troubles, nine kids living in a van with no milk money for the baby and she didn't want a hand out, all she wanted was a days work.

So the owner asked her if she could paint and on hearing a reply in the affirmative, gave her a couple of gallons of paint and a brush and asked if she would paint the porch.

She was elated and was back in about an hour with a gallon of paint left over.

The man remarked about her incredible speed and thriftiness with the paint and wrote her a check for $500 and as they parted, she remarked; "by the way you have a Mercedes, not a Porch!!!" :no:

First, thanks for an insightful piece lex. I believe you have presented how many of us are thinking. Last year I posted the hope that Coach Fulmer would retire in dignity after a decent season, now I deplore that he did not even more.

As a longtime Vols Football follower, this is my 50th year of attending games, I have gone from the death throes of the single wing rescued by Doug Dickey, the embattled Bill, the Marching home of Johnny and the abrupt parade ending with our current Phil bringing new heights to Volunteer land.

Yes I am older than CPF, but refuse to accept (admit?) his age as the cause of the program's demise. It is more likely a blend of complacency, resting on past laurels, increase in recruiting competition and loss of supporting staff. His inability/refusal to adapt and change leaves just one course of action, removal. Please resign coach before even more damage is done.

it's not hte age.......if it's an 87 F150 in the metaphore, i can also be an 87 porsche. either way, it still means the same thing.

maybe better put, i've been getting the feeling the past few years that the conf. has assembled a few more chess players, and we've been stuck with people playing checkers.

literally, age is not the problem.
