The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Is there a good website that explains advanced baseball metrics? I've been listening to a few different podcasts and things to use for fantasy baseball and potentially for dfs, and some of these stats I have no reference to go off if a player is good or not. For example: some of Touki's stats are listed here https://www.pitcherlist.com/pitcher/touki-toussaint/

What does some of this mean?

FanGraphs has an extensive glossary you can check out.

Anything with an x in front of it usually means expected

I know BACON is BABIP except BACON takes into account home runs given up

Statcast has really changed the game. It’s incredible the information we have on everything.

So is wOBA and xwOBA the most important stat for offensive production? That seems to be the theme I’m picking up.

Yes basically. Now wOBA and wRC+/OPS+ are basically the same thing, just measured differently (wOBA has been around for awhile). What xwOBA does is take batted ball information and gives you what their expected wOBA should be. It’s not perfect (recently speed guys would totally outperform their xwOBA but now xwOBA will incorporate sprint speed) but it really helps tell you which guys are getting lucky and unlucky way more than BABIP or BACON can

Let’s say I wanted to make the case that Mookie Betts got lucky last year and he can’t possibly do that again.

His wOBA was .449 last year which top five in baseball. If you go to baseballsavant.com, you can easily say “actually Mookie’s numbers matched up with he should be. His xwOBA was .430”

Assuming Bmac can physically play catcher, he’s going to launch some balls in the jet stream to the chophouse

Raffy Lopez and Alex Jackson are the only options
Right - assuming it’ll be Lopez at this point.

I’m surprised we’re not in on Maldonado since we didn’t pull the trigger on JTR. No way they expect McCann to be healthy all year and Flowers has his obvious issues.
