I said it all day yesterday, Peterson is the MAN for this job!...His offense's are VERY exciting and wide open...He's proven He can win the big games and would do the job for a long time...I personally think he's perfect for the job!...Now if only We could see the headlines of "Coach Phillip Fulmer has announced his resignation at the end of the season", We are in good shape!

Pinkel has quite resume, but you would have to remember that it took him 3-4 years at Missouri to be comfortable and have HIS players, so the question begs......

If you hire a new coach, will EVERYONE be comfortable waiting around 2 years or so, until we have that coaches players? In other words we might have a few 8-4 7-5 seasons until for '09 and '10, or will we be back, the second we lost to FL next year, to the anti-HC rants?

What is Petersen's buyout at Boise State? Probably a mil or less. UT could easily come up with that coin.

Could say the same about Les Miles but he seems to be doing alright.
Les Miles coached at a BCS school before he went to LSU. He learned from Schembechler and has the talent around him to win every year. I wouldnt consider Miles a coaching genuis but I would venture out to say that he has forgot more about football than Peterson will ever know.

your crazy if you think we should hire butch davis,he proved he couldnt cut it in the NFL what makes you think he'll cut it now.I dont even want to get close to hiriring him.Chris is our BEST option!

There have been several like Pete Carroll that didn't cut in in the NFL but they have been great college coaches. Butch Davis had very good Miami teams.

I am not sure what BIG GAMES you are referring to other than the two ranked opponents that they have beaten in the last 2 3/4 years. Seriously, there is something very different from coaching a team that plays that soft of competition to coaching in the SEC

I mean no dsrespect to anyone, everyone is allowed their own opinion, but I just can't for the life of me see Chris Peterson as the solution to our problem. I think without the hook and lat at the end of the '07 fiesta bowl, nobody would ever think of him as even a remote possibility. Not to state the obvious, but the SEC is not the WAC. I mean you never know, he could end up being a championship winning coach at a big school, I just don't see it right now.

Well it appears that the U of Washington is nipping at his heels right now...The man is a proven winner.

At Boise State maybe, hes never been anywhere else. Hawkins built that team, I would be more welcome for him to come than Peterson. He may be a good coach, but imo. he would get shredded in the SEC.

Shirley, you can't be serious? Just because he's at Boise State for the moment doesn't mean he isn't going to succeed on the bigger stage. Sorry if I duplicate someone else's thoughts, but can I remind you of guys like Urban Meyer, who went from Utah to Florida and did pretty damn well. Or a guy like Mark Richt, whose very first HC job at Georgia has gone very well. How about our own Bruce Pearl? Basketball yes, but same prinicple. Small school success CAN equal BCS success.
Petersen has proven he can take a lesser talented team into solid BCS stadiums and win. Kind of like Pearl 1.0. Forgive me, but if he can coach up Boise State, I can give him a crack at coaching up some Volunteers. If he coaches 'em up and we win some big games, the recruits will follow given all our facilities and fan base.

Meyer just didn't start having success at Utah. He was an assistant for 13 years, then took over a 2-9 Bowling Green team, and went 17-6 in two years, then was hired by Utah, 5-6 record the year before Meyer. He went 22-2 at Utah, and won a BCS Bowl.

Chris Petersen took over a Boise State team that won 4 straight conference championships, & went 45-7 the past 4 seasons. Yes, he deserves credit for being the offensive coordinator, but Dan Hawkins should get alot of credit for Boise State's success.

I like Petersen, but there is better in my opinion.

Thanks for reinforcing the point about Meyer. BG and Utah are not necessarily the best training grounds for being HC at Florida, but it's worked. Petersen did take over a great program that he had a large part in building (just like CPF did), and he's shown no signs of letting them slip yet...witness the beatdown on Oregon this weekend. There are certainly successful coaches at bigger schools than Boise St. would come in and be successful here, but I think that Petersen (and Muschamp and Brian Kelly) is one of the rising stars in this business. I'm ready to take that risk.

Just one question. Would anyone be saying his name had it not been for the one season they won the Fiesta Bowl?

What are these facts you keep talking about? Besides i never said i thought Fulmer was a good hire when he got hired. I never said Peterson wasn't a good coach. I just don't see him being able to recruit against the big boys of the SEC. Just because you can win in the Mountain West or WAC doesn't mean you're a great coach. Truth is you have no facts other than you just like him.

maybe you guys should read first LOOK I pracrically posted his RESUME!

So you posted his resume , so what? You said he's smarter than Dan Hawkins. Where does it prove that? You said he's a GREAT coach. There's guys in all divisions that have great resumes. Look at the guy from Appalachain State. His Resume is better than Petersons. Let me rephrase since obviously you have trouble understanding. All Peterson did was MAINTAIN success at a program that already had success under the person he learned from which was Hawkins. You compare him to Meyer. Utah & Bowling Green sucked when Meyer got there and he TURNED them around. You gotta come with more than that to prove he's a GREAT coach. Good yes, GREAT hardly.

Dude, I mean I like Petersen and all, but beating Oklahoma 1 time does not make him the best thing since sliced bread

I compare him to Meyer cause everybody keeps saying that Petersen's coaching style wouldnt work in the SEC.Well Urban Meyer is proving that a spread offensive style CAN work in the SEC,and yes I do believe he is a better coach than Hawkins. He makes smarter decisions than Hawkins as a coach,If he maintains the success he has had with Boise this year, then I say HIRE him because most of Hawkins' leftovers are gone at least the playmakers anyway.
