Yeah those things are all cool. I never said they were boring.

I also wouldn't be calling to make those changes in the college or NFL game. But in the AAF? I don't know. I like the twist on a league that's basically just to give guys a chance to showcase for the NFL. I'm curious to see how it plays out. Also I don't think all kicking is gone.

Unpopular opinion:
Kicking is overrated and the least interesting thing in football

Me dodging y'all's shots the rest of the day:

Make up your mind punchy.

Assuming you have "starters" listed first, if UT has to start 3 freshmen in the OL this fall, we are going to have some real ups and downs this coming year. Wright, Morris and Chris A might be the core of the next great OL at UT, but it's a tall order to step in and start as a true freshman in the SEC.

Football is incredibly interesting and kicking is the least interesting part. I stand by it.

These are some of the rule changes in the AAF league. Curious about y'all's thoughts. I kinda like them. View attachment 193439

Don't like the onside kick replacement option. It is much easier to gain 10 yds than to recover an onside kick.

They should just allow the trailing team to attempt onside kicks in the the last 5 mins of the game.

Just listed 2 deep at each spot. If Trey returns he starts.

I actually think 2 freshmen will start on the line.

Understood. As for Trey, I'd love to see him healthy and starting, but those clotting issues.....

Football is a game. Having lost a son, I honestly would not let him set foot on the field again if I were his father. He might be hurt by giving up a game he loves, but he'll find something else to be passionate about. A world without your child is a very dark and cold place. Walk away from it Trey. It's not worth your life....it really isn't.

I read in a different article that the onside kick rule actually gives you the ball at the 28 yard line and it's more like 4th and 12.

Also you don't get the option to do it unless you're down by at least 17 or you're in the last 5 minutes of the game.

I kinda wish they let you do it anytime and made it a little tougher.

Georgia placed 2 Freshman OL on the SEC all freshman team last year. Wilson at RT (he was actually a RS FR) and Mays at RG. Mays was an EE. They had another true FR, Hill, that split time with Mays. He was also an EE. He started the last 4 games of the season, the first 3 of which Mays was injured.

I'm sure there are many more examples of true FR carrying a heavy load in their first season in the SEC. Morris is an EE so that's got to help.

Yep, didn't Bama have a LT a few yrs back that started? Robinson maybe? Not sure but rings a bell to me..
One or both of Morris and Wright play a lot this year.. JMO

I don't see any of those things except the shorter play clock and reduction in commercials as a way to speed up the game. Maybe not having kickoffs. Going for two will take longer than kicking. All JMO.

If I was to project Game 1 OL starters. (Assuming Trey is out)

LT - Wright
LG - Carvin
C - Kennedy or Ryan
RG - Morris
RT - JJ or Tatum

I've heard some speak about Wright needing work with technique and that he's more likely to begin at guard. Morris was an early arrival and benefits from the S&C. The commentary(I think it was Hubbs) was that his technique was more sound so it seems like he'd be more likely to get the nod at tackle. Hey, if they're the best we got, they're the best we got.

I think Hubbs also said that while Morris might be up on the technique, that his S&C will need work (you correctly pointed out EE benefit). I guess we will see when fall practice rolls around what the depth chart looks like.

I always wondered where the name "football" came from, since it's such a minor part of the game. Soccer is football to the rest of the world.

We should rename it runball, passball, American rugby, something else?

Another true freshman offensive lineman that made the all-sec frosh team last year was Dylan Wonnum from South Carolina (0.9385). He enrolled in June and was starting at right tackle by the 8th game into the season. It just so happened that game was against us. He played in their first game of the season then didn't appear on the participation chart again until the game right before ours (Texas A&M). Beginning with their game against us he apparently started all the remaining games of the year.
