Thinking about moving to Knoxville

That seems out of his price range.
Just a little. If I was making what I’m making in Orlando it would be fine but I’m taking a paycut. My goal up here is to cheap out at first, stack my money and buy my dream cabin home!

Well then, just to help the dreaming along:

Cabin Porn

No, it's not porn, unless you can actually get yourself going by looking at pictures of cabins. But damn, I can spend way too much time looking at that site.

If you're into the hipster scene fountain city is becoming a much better place to live. Studios and one bedroom apartments will be less than $7-800

I didn't think about this. Also a solid point.

North Broadway is a people watching paradise. The Hoverounds and Rascals racing along the shoulder. The Felini Kroger. The Shoney's waitresses. The dollar store clientele. It's like the People of Walmart minus the Walmart.

Forgot to mention I’d like a garage also for my apartment. No clue if any of you know some complexes that offer those

My son worked at that warehouse for a while and we live in North Knoxville (Powell area). It's an affordable place to live with a lot of conveniences. By the way, meeting Involuntary is a good thing - he's a good friend of mine and you'll be glad you did!

Sysco is kind of right in the middle. Commuting from South Knoxville might be through some thick traffic... UT and downtown are between SoKno and Sysco. Don't live on the East side. West is the best, but traffic from the far west Farragut) will be bad as well. Near west should be okay. Powell, Karns, Norwood, Bearden (northern sections), downtown all pretty good options. Merchants Road, Western Avenue, Middlebrook Pike, Lonas Road/Papermill areas would be very easy commutes. Emory Road also, which is Powell and the west end and Halls on the east end. Did I say don't live east side? Don't live on the easy side! Unless it's way out east... well beyond the city limits.

I appreciate this info! I posted here a while back about a potential move to Knoxville and have a job interview lined up tomorrow. If it goes well I'll be working just to the West side of UT, and my wife will be working from home. Looking for the best options for commute and for schools for our son who is almost one, but we'll probably rent for a bit first before buying.

Riverbend is one of my favorite parts of Knoxville. Several subdivisions off of Lyons Bend Road and Northshore (not to be confused with Lyons View Drive just a bit north of Lyons Bend). Riverbend is outside of the city limits but close to downtown.

Lots of choices in the near west/Bearden area for about $250,000 and up. $200,000 houses in good areas sell quickly or have issue(s) like less than 3BR/2 baths/2 car garages.

Ideally, once we get settled, we'll be looking for a place with at least 3BR/2BA, and either a MIL suite or a finished basement, since my MIL will likely be living with us for a while. She's unfortunately battling cancer and doesn't have much time left, but she'll also be contributing financially and bolstering our budget.

Near West area is definitely what I've been looking at the most.

They actually have apartments towards the back and condos, although one set of apartments looks like it could pass for a housing project.

The contractor I worked for when I lived in Knoxville had a deal with Sequoyah Square, so I was always in Sequoyah Hills. The management was a little annoying, but the residents were all great. College age kids all the way to elderly. And with the exception of our compressor, very quiet.

On a plane heading to Nashville now. Been a while since I’ve been in town. @InVOLuntary still good for next Saturday? We can catch the Tennessee Kentucky game if you want also.

Thinking about transferring warehouses, I’d be going from Orlando to Knoxville and was wondering what are some good areas to live in in the Knoxville area? I’ll be taking a bit of a pay cut is 50-65K a livable wage in the Knoxville area? I’m trying to start out cheap, one bed room apartment kind of thing and save up money for a house but if I make this move it’s gonna be a permanent one. I’ve obviously been to numerous UT games but what’s the Knoxville area like to live in, and what are the best surrounding cities to live in? I’d prefer to be within 30 minutes of UT since my job is nearby

What part of town are you working in? Is commuting important?

I have a few old colleagues that rent out houses, rooms, and apartments. They're mostly in the north, east, and central/downtown.
