In a rare moment of agreement with you...I concur that Chaney is a great hire. I never hated him like others when he was here WITH Dooley, but even if I had, his floor is MUCH MUCH higher than any OC we've had since he left.

Barnes is an odd comparison to me, because Barnes was in a slump before we scooped him up. Chaney has been humming along with an above average offense (even at arkansas they had a decent offense that got a lot worse after him). He's even less of a risk than Barnes, IMO.

I get it, he's not the best OC ever. He has some infuriating tendencies. He's like Chavis to me. Good enough to win a NC, but can have moments where he really seems to suck. Still a top 20 OC, which is way better than a 5-7 program that's been in a slump for a long time deserves.
Brock Huard had Chaney in his top 5 OC's in the country.....whatever that means lol.....but i thought it was interesting that when asked that question, he listed him wiht guys like Lincoln Riley and the group at Clemson among others.

not really to argue any point you're making here. but just to kinda validate that Chaney is pretty well respected and pretty highly thought of. it was a great hire for us, agreed.

Same, wish Walker had RS last year. But Fulkie being hurt forced him to play.

The bigs next season gonna be a different breed. Walker, DJ, & Grant are all big framed beef. Next year's team will have a lot more size.

A 6'7" 5 star guard coming in as well. I just hope none of our Juniors leave for the league, I understand if they do...but I think the college experience is a once and a lifetime thing.

Normally I'm all for players leaving for the NBA if you're a draftable prospect. Admiral coming back for his senior season will definitely help his draft prospects, and I think the same thing will be true for Grant as well if he comes back. The NBA comparisons that I've seen to Grant are Draymond Green. For grant to play as a 4 or even a 5 in an NBA small ball lineup, he'll need to improve his outside shot. The vision and passing skills are there, and he's certainly strong enough and has an NBA body.

If Golden State were to draft Grant either this year or next, that would be a great destination for him and his game. I couldn't think of an NBA destination that would be better for the way that he plays ball.

Derrick needs some Barnes School of FT shooting. He has his shooting hand on the side of the ball instead of under and directly behind the ball. Fix the technique first, then work on the focus and concentration. He's a baller that just needs some development. The team needs him to work on it to be a better back-up to Alexander. Fulk is like a tractor out of gear at times - jerking and lunching all over before he falls down. He's trying too hard instead of playing within himself.

Chaney knows what PDT wants and will design an O scheme for it. CJP can just overview everything and work on the D. Chaney reacts to what he see like all coaches. If CJP drills him on not abandoning the run, he will do it like he did at Arky. My gut tells me CJP is not as conservative as people think for his scheme. He just wants prudent play calls for the situations that take advantage of match-ups. We have not seen that since Lane Kiffin was HC.

Hey, so where we at with all of the coach shuffling that came with the addition of Tee and Chaney and loss of Kelly? Are we just waiting on signing days for the rest of the pieces of the puzzle?

right now we're full. lost Helton and Kelly, added Chaney and Martin.

if there are any other moves to be made, yes, we will probably wait til after signing day to make them.

We’re full. According to Tee’s social media profile he is WR, Co-OC, and Assistant HC.

Frustrated and determined, beads of sweat poured down the face of Tennessee freshman corner Bryce Thompson in the early morning hours following the Vols' season-opening loss to West Virginia.

Competing in his first collegiate game, the former Rivals 4-star prospect had shown flashes, but the Irmo (S.C) native had also given up some big pass plays. Did it mean the difference between winning and losing? Nope, but that has never mattered to Thompson. He expects his play to help, not hinder the team. Anything in the form of the latter drives him.

"All that was going through my mind was David Sills and Will Grier," Thompson said. "I just didn't like the fact that I got embarrassed on national TV. I couldn't let that slide. It drove me the whole way back to Knoxville. I kept thinking, 'I have to get better. I have to get better.'"

"I want my mom just living her life and not having to worry about working," Thompson said. "I want to pay off everything I can and pay her back all the things she helped me with my entire life. I know every time I go to film or go to work out it's straight business because I don't want her to have to work again."

And to make sure she won’t have to, Bryce Thompson does.

Long, but a great story on one of our young stars.

Edit: was long but a mod removed a lot of it and gave me an infraction saying posting entire articles is against the rules —- even though it happens constantly here.
