TrumPutinGate

Seems the SCO got some "advice" from above.

Clear that the statement was meant to quash any move to start hearings on what Trump did or did not do in connection with Cohen's Congressional testimony. And yes, doj seemed to want a press release on this as well. My read is that the special counsel's office genuinely reads the evidence differently than BuzzFeed's sources. The next few days could be interesting if some of the documentary evidence starts leaking.

Russian model who claimed to have recordings linking Trump to the Kremlin Apologizes in Court for the claim

A model who last year claimed to have evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election apologized to a Russian tycoon for the claim and won't say more about the matter.

Anastasia Vashukevich, 21, who also works as a sex coach, appeared calm as she was led in Nagatinsky District Court of Moscow in handcuffs by officers dressed in a black puffer jacket and a grey hooded top.

She was detained at a Moscow airport on charges of prostitution after being deported from Thailand.
She apologized for her claim in a Moscow court that was considering whether to keep her in jail as she faces charges of inducement to prostitution. The court extended her detention for three more days.

Vashukevich's statement appears to head off any chance of her speaking to U.S. investigators looking into possible collusion between Russia and President Donald Trump's campaign.

Why was she arrested? Prostitution... Yeah..

Alright Alright Alright... Come on BuzzFeed!

Find where I said this was certainly true. I defended the writers as top notch and BuzzFeed as having won numerous awards. Certainly I would have put money on it being true given their track record. Still view the SC's statement as more likely issued to put a wet blanket on any premature movement from Dems to demand records and conduct hearings before Mueller is done with his investigation. The use of "not accurate" as opposed to "false" suggests that they didn't get the story entirely wrong. How substantive BuzzFeed's error was is anyone's guess (except for Mueller).

Don't you agree that Mueller's team does nothing if Dem congressmen had simply said "well this sounds interesting, can't wait to see if Mueller's reports says the same thing"? Not in Mueller's interest to have congressional hearings going into this fairly limited issue while he's still trying to finish his work. So my view is that there was something inaccurate in what BuzzFeed wrote (probably an interpretation of how strong the evidence is or whether Trump "directed" Cohen to lie as opposed to something less forceful) and Mueller seized upon that to issue the statement and keep the Dems at bay until he completes his report.
I never said you claimed it to true. But you certainly were not of the wait and see approach.

I'm not sure what the dems are really trying here. He will never get impeached because the Republicans have the senate. But lets hypothetically say he does. You have Pence second in command and he is far more conservative than Trump.

At the federal level, the power of impeachment is granted to the House of Representatives. The House is obligated to base any charges on the constitutional standards of treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Conviction (removal from office) is what requires a two-thirds majority vote in the Senate - and will not happen.

So what's the end game? Just to smear for four years and hope they can beat him that way besides of putting a good candidate against him with good ideas?

What was the end game for the House Republicans who voted to impeach Bill Clinton in 1998? They knew they didn't have the votes in the Senate to remove him from office... and he only had two years left of his 2nd term, anyway? Politics in this country often overrides good sense.

Good point.

SDNY is part of the DOJ.

SDNY is the most independent office of all the districts with a U.S. Attorney who was not appointed by the President nor approved by Congress. He was appointed by the SDNY Federal Court. That office is doing whatever they want because the President or Attorney General can’t stop them.
