Gotta say, this means nothing.

I'm a wholehearted believer in Pruitt, and I'm in it for the long haul (5 years minimum) with him as HC.

The top-20 recruiting classes don't mean anything because (correct me if I'm wrong) have we EVER had a class outside the top 20? Like since Rivals/247 became a thing? Dooley was getting top-20 classes. This school recruits itself.

Pulling Chaney was a big-balls move, and the stability it'll bring can't be understated. Chaney's experience can help keep Pruitt grounded as he gains his experience and traction as a first time P5 HC. This point aside, I do think Pruitt will still make a couple rookie mistakes, and anyone who thinks his pedigree as a Saban disciple making him immune to such mistakes might be a little naive.

It'll take a massive improvement along the OL for us to reach 'sleeper' status, as well as no drop-off from our DL which lost Shy/KP/Alexis/Bain/Kongbo. Those are both tall, tall orders.

Realistically, 6-6 or 7-5 next year. We shouldn't be getting our hopes any higher than that.

I hear you. Sure, Tennessee recruits top 20 classes itself as long as the head coach has a pulse.

But I would argue that all top 20 ranked recruiting class aren't equal. In the same way that all 1st round picks in the NFL draft aren't equal....

The job doesn't end with the ranking. At the end of the day the success or failure comes down to the evaluation and the development of each recruit. That hasn't been done very well around here in awhile.

That being said your prediction is probably fair as things stand. But I think we'll take a big step forward overall as a program next season. I see no reason for 8 or 9 wins not to be on the table for us. Especially if we add somebody like Hurts to the mix.

He was the 27th ranked player overall by rivals when he signed with OU. He was committed here for a year, but decomitted when Butch took 3 QBs in the class before him. He may have had other reasons for decomitting, but reading articles at the time it sounds like that didnt help.
He was fine with competing against Dormady and Sheriron (JJ had already converted to WR when he decommitted), but when our staff went all out for Guarantano, he saw the writing on the wall.

I couldn't name one coach, not even the UCONN guy. Nor could 95% of sports fans. We had one of the greatest coaches of any sport of all time here. It was glorious. She is gone. No coach could live up to that. Time to put women's bball back where it belongs, on the way way back burner.

He hasn’t ran an offense like that anywhere else. His other 5 stops have been completely different than that. Pay attention.
He coached with Joe Tiller for 12 years at both Wyoming, where they started running basketball on grass, and Purdue where they perfected it. Was his OC for 8 of those years at Purdue. So 8 of the 19 years he's been an OC don't count? Don't pull a hammy reaching to fit yer narrative. He's adapted his offense at every stop to fit his players. He's had explosive passing offenses at multiple stops, and 3 times, at 2 different schools, has had 2 different RBs rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season (Arkansas 2014 and Georgia twice). He's worked well with great offensive and defensive HC's and put up points at every stop. Trying to pigeon hole him into yer "he only runs long developing play action" narrative is leaving out most of the evidence. But I know yer gonna keep doing it. Just wanna make sure people realize how much yer leaving out.

We need one more QB.

Hopefully a grad transfer would be an upgrade and start for us at the least...be decent enough to be a backup and let us Redshirt Maurer
If they put a redshirt on Maurer, it probably will just add to the transfer talk of one of our QB's when Bailey gets here. By all accounts, Bailey looks like the someone who would not want a redshirt. Dude has NFL size in high school and appears to have all the necessary talent.

Drew had a meeting with our coaches today. He must not have liked what they had to say.

Didn’t get any good NFL feedback so transferring was the logical next step.

Probably said you better work your ass off this off-season bc the new guys are gonna push you for playing time if you don’t put in the effort....
