On Hyamms weekly spot on the WUZ here in middle TN, Mark Howard asked him about the OC search and how it got to Chaney. Jimmy just said some stuff but the the most interesting thing he said was that he knew Pruitt wanted AND interviewed Freeze but it was shot down by the AD. Just thought I’d share since you took some heat for saying the same thing. Now, having Hyamms back you up isn’t really a glowing endorsement but it’s better than nothing. Lol. 👊🏼
Yea i don’t really care about the heat. People can choose to believe whatever they want and no one really knows exactly what happens 99% of the time.

But Pruitt definitely wanted freeze and he wanted to be here.

Saban right now:

Personally, I'm not comfortable with a 3 QB room so I agree with taking a grad transfer
We need one more QB.

Hopefully a grad transfer would be an upgrade and start for us at the least...be decent enough to be a backup and let us Redshirt Maurer

I'm probably wrong here but UT has to get to the point ASAP where a grad transfer at the QB position isn't even considered. Eventually bringing in grad transfers like was done with KC and whoever it will be this year will come to bite you in the butt. Young QBs could easily become reluctant to even give UT a look if bringing in grad transfers becomes common practice.

Grad transfer QBs are usually not great talents. Occasionally a very talented one does pop up (i.e. Russell Wilson) but those situations are few and far in between. Hurts has a lot of potential and brings a skill set we don't have in our QB room so that's a risk I'm willing to accept, but getting another mediocre QB with similar skillsets to the guys already here isn't a recipe for winning more games.

I completely agree, unless they don't think Shrout or Maurer can play this year.

I doubt Maurer, as a true freshman, is ready to play. Will be interesting to see what Shrout does during spring ball. The most fascinating part will be when Bailey gets here (assuming he signs).

But I agree that a grad-transfer QB makes sense this season.

I think you're right. VQ guys have said for many months now it's a real possibility, that Pruitt would pursue Hurts. I'm guessing that has been the plan for awhile. It could change of course with all the coaching changes out there but I think there's a good chance he's a Vol.
I've always liked Hurts because he seems like a nice guy and doesn't showboat at all, but I don't think he's that good of a QB. I'd love to have him for depth, but he's not winning us many more games than JG, if any. He's a better runner but not as good of a thrower. I guess if our ol still sucks that makes him a better fit to escape without getting murdered, but with an improved OL I think JG would be as good or better. Bama having better OL/WR/RB than everyone else make all QBs look better than they actually are.

Bama falling. It happens everywhere. None stay on the mountain top forever. It just feels like it if you are a Vol fan.
I hope the fall is rapid and hard! Would love to taste some tears from all of these obnoxious Bama fans. Do you think possibly Saban might be retiring or giving NFL one more try, and everyone in the program knows it?

I think you underestimate how a lead footed qb can hurt an offensive line and how one with a hint of pocket (presents) and mobility can help one... and thus extend drives, convert third downs, and win that south carolina game and get us to a bowl

Yea that would be great but it’s just not where we are. Also there are times when grad transfer QBs can come in and make a big difference. Just like at Washington state this year.

Unfortunately I think SEC championship game opened up a ton of options for him. If Oklahoma comes calling there’s no way he should turn it down.
As bad as i hope this doesn’t happen. Hurts should go to Florida. He would be great with Mullen and he would help him develop further as a passer.

I couldn't name one coach, not even the UCONN guy. Nor could 95% of sports fans. We had one of the greatest coaches of any sport of all time here. It was glorious. She is gone. No coach could live up to that. Time to put women's bball back where it belongs, on the way way back burner.
Weird take..I am a Tennessee Volunteer, I want UT be championship contenders in Croquet, Cornhole and Horseshoes..
