Can we lay to rest the...

He asked if it could be laid to rest. I understood it to mean that the claim anyone could coach the God-Like talent at Alabama and that Pruitt might not be as good of a DC as everyone thinks, might not be true. And he thinks we have our Football coach.

As far as "let him coach", um, yea that's just a figure of speech. I'd bet money you knew that, but .....you were just doing your thang.
So he asked a question but we werent supposed to answer the sane way?

Clemson has done a good job of keeping good players in the program and developing them. Those classes have less players in them as a result of low attrition numbers which skew the recruiting rankings some. They have great talent.

Refer to post #160 just above. This shows the avg player/recruit score for each year, which is not biased by a small recruiting class. Until the past couple years they have not recruited on the same level as Bama or even several other current P5 recruiting powerhouses.

So until the past couple years they have not recruited great players (in terms of the recruiting service numbers), but instead, as you mention, have done a great job developing what the recruiting services report as non-blue-chip players.

They do have great talent, but until recently, it was nearly completely because of player development, not because of top 10 recruiting classes.

Clemson proves that coaching matters more than anything else. I'd just about guarantee the last 5 years recruiting was better on average at Florida State, Georgia, USC, Michigan, LSU and Auburn than there.

As for the implication that Bama didn't win this year because they lacked Pruitt, they still had a top 15 defense in the nation and went 14-1. Clemson just had some amazing 5 star freshmen with one of them being a QB who has generational talent

As for how Tennessee did this year, did we look better in the first month of the season or the last month of the season? I'd argue that we looked the same or worse later in the season. Which to me isn't a great sign. But either way, we're here for a few more years with Pruitt at the minimum. I hope he's doing well enough to be the coach here in 10 years, but it's not unreasonable at all to think he and staff didn't do a good job this year considering the nature of the losses we suffered and the fact that we didn't get better over the course of the season. Nothing we do or say on here will keep him from doing his job either.

When I listen to what he said, I hear him say his players are not good enough and there is nothing he can do about it. Not a fan of that.
I'll post this again for clarification. You previously claimed this wasn't the quote but never posted the one you heard or read when asked.

CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl, the Tennessee coach relayed the message he had for his team at halftime.

“I made them a promise, we have a few guys playing the right way and doing all the right things. I promise you I’ll recruit 25 other guys that will play the right way so we don’t have to play in another game like this,” Pruitt said, according to Erdahl.

I posted that quote in response to this comment.

So was he not referring to the players with that statment? Maybe thing will change when we recruit better cheerleaders or something+ no, wait...he did say players. So he made a statement about the team as a whole and yeah, thats a pretty pathetic thing for a coach to do

Unless there is another quote, what you hear and what was said are 2 different things.

Now had he said "This is not gonna change until I can get rid of this entire roster that sucks and replace them with better players that will do the right things." You would be accurate in the translation and I would agree. He might would be right, but thats not a good look.

He said something about nothing will change until he recruited players. Imo you should mention recruiting during a game.

Best I remember utep was worse than etsu. Etsu was pretty bad in the first quarter then got better. Utep was bad .
You know that top notch qb we got? He barely got over 150 yards in both.
Allowed a field goal to one...shut out the other= trash. Tough crowd.

UTEP is the one of the worst Div 1A/FBS programs on a yearly basis. They had one of their best defensive performances vs a power 5 team in something like 50 years against UT this year. It wasn't good on our side of things, at all.

For someone that can’t remember their own words, it’s hard to count them as a credible source.

Yes, true for most or all of those teams.

True again. Keep in mind that Pruitt inherited a fire whereas Swinney inherited a somewhat decent stable 7-9 win program from a coach that had been there for 10 years, and even with that, Swinney's first three years were not fully encouraging:
Clemson under Swinney
2008 Record = 7-6 (interim coach)
2009 Record = 9-5
2010 Record = 6-7
Clemson was mediocre and/or kind of sucked up to this point
2011 Record = 10-4
2012 Record = 11-2
2013 Record = 11-2
2014 Record = 10-3
Clemson was good up to this point, but "Clemsoned" at least one time each year with one or more goofball losses.
2015 Record = 14-1
2016 Record = 14-1
2017 Record = 12-2
2018 Record = 15-0

Pruitt has a huge task to get UT back on track within the next 3-4 years. I think it can be done and I hope he is the guy that gets it done.

Swinney is a very good coach and is amiable to finding someone who can improve his team/staff. His major turning point was hiring Chad Morris, who installed the system they run and turned them into an offensive juggernaut. Morris also was the factor in getting guys like Watson to commit. The new OCs did well learning from Morris and keeping the system rolling. They are also excellent recruiters and the reason guys like Higgins are playing there instead of here. Dabo does well keeping assistants, Morris is his only major defection. Venebles keeps getting mentioned for HC jobs but people keep hiring Saban assistants instead.

Quick Behr! Before he changes his mind!
Not sure why he said that in reply to my comment, and I don't know what makes him think I need his permission, but Im easy to get along with.

So not trash?

UTEP was a poor performance on offense. It was about par for the course for the defense. UTEP is a really really really bad program. They'd be sub .500 in the FCS division each year. When they have one of their best defensive games in decades against UT's offense, it's pretty hard to find any positives for that side of the ball from that game. It's also a statement about how bad UTEP is when giving up 24 points indicates one of their best defensive games vs a P5 team since the 1960s.

But he also didnt claim that his comments I posted we re directed toward the entire team? The way you portrayed it.

I agree. In the sec ball and clock control have been ingrained in our minds. Last night Clemsons defense didn't skip a beat.

It helps to have the quality depth Clemson does on the D line and that's been an ongoing issue for years with the Vols but, scoring points and putting pressure on the other team offensively and defensively is more important IMO.
