Wait just a second....these are biased stats. You are looking over his whole 17 or so years. Check his last 5.

You can't just look at the whole. You must monitor the trend. The trend indicates a complete turn downhill.

We can cut a section of his tenure at any certain time and comment on his record. We did take the East last year. How is that a complete downward turn?

We won the East by a matter of default,we had a lot of help in winning it,we damn sure didn't get there on our own.

If you did a great job 17 years ago and stunk it up for the last five, what would you expect your boss to think???

Yes we took the East. Apparently you missed the rest of the season. Let's see, Cal, UF, Alabama, squeaking by with Ky and SC. Yes, you are right, what a stellar season.

So let me ask, would you be happy with another 2007 season in 2008? what about 2009? If you truly think that we aren't trending downward, then you are by definition a Fulmerite. Blind to the trend and holding onto the distant past...

No, we didn't "take" the East last year...it was given to us. You don't lose to a division rival by 39 points and "take" anything...other than a bad a**whipping. Kudos for the win over UGA, but then there's the Bama game.

The only thing we've "took" in the last five, six, seven, or so years, is losses in SEC Championship games, and BCS bowl games.

If you want to tout Fulmer as a "top-flight" coach, then look at his record against top-flight teams...his record in SEC Championship games...and his record against BCS Bowl opponents.

Still sippin' that '98 Kool-Aid, are ya?

Good vintage. Trouble is, that bottle's empty now.

The point I am trying to make is, we did take the East. We did what we had to do to win while the "top tier" teams as you call them could not. We beat Ga who beat FL. We beat Ky who beat LSU. And so on. We did what our rivals failed to do. We won when we had to.

First, the phrase "top tier" teams I never said.

Second, we did "win" when we had to, to eek out a mediocre season.

Third, the games we eeked out were not won by the coaching staff. Our coaching staff seemed to be working against us. Those eeked out wins were won by the players. The coaches did nothing to help.

Please, answer these questions:

1) Are we mediocre?

2) Do you think the program is as good as it was in the late 1990's and early 2000's.

There will be a lot of interesting responses to this post if we beat the gators tomorrow. But IMO, yes, we are mediocre at this point in time, but how quickly things change in college football.

To me, it's not one game. It's all about the year to year trend. Anybody can have a bad day, but good coaches don't have a bad year(s).

You are right. My fault. Several poster refer to Ga and Fl as top tier teams. You did not. My apologies.

If you say the players won the games, are you saying the players never lost the games we did lose? Coach Fulmer was responsible for the losses, but not for the wins. Are you trying to have it both ways?

Question 1. No I do not think so. The SEC is the best in the country. I think we are as good as anyone.

Question 2. No we are not as good.

You're saying "we" as in TN or the SEC are as good as anyone in the country? Either way I think there's a huge argument there.

Thanks for answering the questions, although I disagree that we are as good as anyone. I think we are slightly above average. Just my opinion.

Regarding your questions about repsonsiblities for wins/losses.

1) The Cal and Florida losses I thought were on the coaches, especially Chavis. The Alabama game we were completely outcoached and unprepared.

2) I think Fulmer has had Richt's number for the last couple of years and has outcoached him. I'm interested to see if Richt has learned from butt-kickings over the last couple to see if he can draw a bead on Fulmer's blaring weaknesses.

3) KY, SC, and Vandy - I think it was close because of bad coaching - bottomline, however I think the players eeked those wins out despite the lax defense and conservative play calling that made it close in the first place.

I truly think that our talent is the only thing that keeps us close a lot of times. Honest to goodness the UCLA game shows exactly how our own coaching stupidity plays into the hands of the other team, namely Chavis playing lax with the secondary in the second half after we had 4 interceptions in the first half. Completely mindless strategy...
