You don't need true Bama level talent to compete with them. Just need 44 guys on their level. Basically the two deep on offense and defense. Of course, that still means recruiting top 5 basically every year.
Oh I have no problem with you at all (hope it didn't sound that way) -- you're good people. I understand where you're coming from and emotionally I agree with it. I just think it's better for us overall the other way.
Clemson has done what we used to do: built strong OLs and DLs and brought in playmakers at the skills positions. You can do a lot with that formula. I don't think they'd fare as well if they had to compete under an SEC schedule (the grind would wear down their depth) but with a softer schedule they can keep guys healthy for a game like this.
Bama has reached the point of diminishing returns with how much talent they have. They can't even use it all. I guess it helps them considering their scout team would be in the top 25.
