It is if you feel pretty good about him as an OC when you hire him as a position coach. He's not much of safety blanket otherwise if your just hoping he is ready just in case the OC leaves.

If UT hires a good OC that leaves in 2 years they will have opened up the pool a little more when that time comes. I think Tee is a great recruiter and solid position coach. Would be a great addition to the staff. But if what you believe about USC is true, that still leaves questions about his abilities. He needs some credit as an OC to move the needle for me.
I guess that’s what I mean. Let’s say he’s the WR coach or the RB coach for two years under Sark. And let’s say he has some variation of a co-OC title.

So let’s say we have two good offensive years. We’re progressing and scoring points. Maybe not setting the world on fire but moving in the right direction. Then Sark takes a HC job. While I’m sure there would be a search, at that point Tee would get some credit for the offensive improvement. It would not be crazy to give him the reigns.

Dollywood's new ride...TN OC Search

You wait through a very long line, while Dollywood staffers hype up the ride, telling you various stories about the awesome new and innovative ride you are about to experience ("We here at Dollywood are 95% sure it will be the best ride of your life!").

Once you actually get through the line, though, the ride is just the standard crappy spinning teacups.

"Wait, where's this fantastic new ride you've been hyping up?" you ask.

The attendant replies, "Oh, sorry. We had the contract ready and were about to begin construction, but Busch Gardens swooped in at the last second..."

Not a big issue with a lot of guys. He's not looking to rebuild a staff and guys he's talking to know that.
La,
You've said you didn't think Pruitt would get along with Chaney. According to Hyams Fulmer likes Chaney and Pruitt respects him.

If we hired Chaney would that be a sign of Fulmer's mentoring/guidance?

Do you think Chaney is a no go for Pruitt?

Some of you guys would have us in perpetual loop on item 1.

Butch had us stuck on 2.

I'd like to see a bad Pruitt/Fulmer plan get to at least step 3.

yeah it isn't as fun. On Saturday I sat around with a bunch of GA fans in my wife's family. They mocked me the entire time because the Vols stink right now at football and one bragged about the corner that committed to them on Saturday. But then they could not believe that I didn't root for them in the sugar bowl. Are you kidding? I told them that I hate GA and hope they lose every game they play. It isn't fun watching our rivals have success while we suck.
I am to the point of bitterness. Literally the only SEC team I’ve rooted for this bowl season is LSU. I hope Clemson wins tonight, mass chaos happens to all of our rivals, and they all go into a four decade-long decline.

Thank God for Rick Barnes. The bball’s team success is sustaining me right now.

Maybe. Just seems a little more risky than I would want to be at that point. Especially if you have opened more doors to OC's with better experience.

Just spit balling, but if you re pretty sure your gonna be replacing another coach or 2 on that side of the ball he's figuring those changes in as well as to who he can get and what roles they will play with different OCs.

Except he formed his staff to backfill. He already has guys he trusts and wants to put on-field. So going outside to fill multiple positions is only going to encourage guys he trusts, who trusted him, to consider looking around. Then he could end up with fewer guys he's worked with and trusts and a higher risk of impacting staff chemistry. IDT he wants to mess with what's working.

I wish some massive cheating scandal would explode at Bama and GA and crush them. I think I'd love that more than winning right now.

I am sure this was posted at some point, but I can't remember because this thing has gone on so long....But @Atlanta VOL's traveler reference could be a veiled nod to the USC mascot who's name is Traveler and thus could apply to either Sark and/or Tee. Just thought I would throw that out there (again?) and see if it sticks.

But Clemson is our recruiting rival so it's just no fun.

For sure. I’m not saying guarantee Tee he gets the job if Sark leaves. But I think it is useful to have people on campus who you can theoretically trust to promote if the time comes.

I think that’s been a lot of our issue. When we have to fire head coaches we haven’t had anyone internally who is qualified to get a HC interview. Sometimes continuity is nice.

I can't wait to find out what all if that really meant.

Let Tee recruit WR’s and YAC coach them. Tee could even set up a broom for the RB’s to run around and help out teaching WR’s.
This all day long.
Watch how much better YAC’s coaching gets when Tee starts delivering him Top100 WRs.

And there is no real “coaching” of RBs. Dudes can either see the hole and hit it, or they can’t.

Dont disagree with that.

Some continuity can be nice, absolutely.
