That approach will fail IMO.
I don’t know. They get this program to a 10 win season and they’ll have an extension and be able to name their price.

It may not be a recipe for a national championship - I’ll grant you that. But I’ve seen nothing to suggest it can’t get us to, as you said, LSU level.

Guys... guys... my sources stated that the war room met this morning. Coley was interviewed and that the actual rate is 3 yrs at $3.8mil. Also, they stated that Tee Martin was comin as well. Possibly as RBs coach.
When did YOU get “sources”? You get a like pending acceptable answer...but I take it back if you **** up. 😎

ATP, it doesn't matter how long it takes. Focusing on timing completely misses the big picture.
Right - the timing doesn’t matter. What’s worrisome is that there’s no proof of a plan or that this thing isn’t dragging on because the guys we want don’t want us and the guys who want us we don’t want.

The only thing that will change it is actually making a good hire. But that was always the case.

The “big picture” can go one of two ways. This thing can drag on, we make a subpar hire, and everyone acknowledges it was trouble from the beginning and we start questioning Pruitt and Fulmer’s ability to move forward.

Or we make a good hire, everyone is happy, and everyone thinks it’s obvious that Pruitt and Fulmer are stealth geniuses.

I have a dentist friend who hears word on the Hill. He stated that he heard the war room was meeting and then he had a friend who is in the AD who stated that Coley had been offered and that Tee was a done deal.

Pruitt’s first two choices (freeze and yurcich) would’ve been booms.

Lebby has boom potential. Chaney is a trot especially for our current personnel. Bringing in Tee as RB or WR coach would be double boom.
Why do you ALWAYS make it a point to state as fact that Freeze was Pruitt's 1st choice. The man never was offered the job. Period. You can speculate and state it as your opinion that he was Pruitt's 1st choice but nothing out there suggests he was. Sure, they had a conversation/conversations but IMO Pruitt spent time with him and Briles to gain knowledge in best ways to defend those particular type offenses and also to better understand how he could possibly evolve his own offensive philosophy. I think Pruitt knew and understood from the get go Freeze nor Briles were gonna be an option. This is all my opinion anyway.

Umm, it was stated by reports that Freeze was in fact Pruitts first choice and he was stalemated on it.....

I think Freeze was our first real candidate and was likely the same for Auburn and Alabama. When word came down that the SEC was advising schools to move away from him, we did as we were told. I’m sure that happened before an offer was ever made.

But to me, and what I think Hank is getting at - is that Freeze was Pruitt’s first call, first interview, first choice. Doesn’t mean he was offered the job. But it does show Pruitt’s priority list.

I don’t get the freak out about the time being taken on this search. If he would have hired someone ASAP and it didn’t work out fans would have been all over him. As long as he has his guy by spring practice then we are fine. I’m actually glad he has been slow with the hire. It beats rushing and making the wrong decision like Mike Hamilton was known for.
My own BVS.
Somewhere in between fast and this long, I'm good.
Sometime after a month, I'm left speculating too long and I get skiddish. Like Tommy Chong with a cop riding behind me for more than a mile.

I can buy that

Because our search started heating up with him and it fell apart it is what it is. I was just saying the two people he seemed to be most interested in initially in yurcich and freeze would’ve been great hires.

We all were hopeful and excited when Pruitt came in at the end last year and flashed a lot of potential being able to recruit at the elite level. Lots of folks said "just wait for him to get a full year here to recruit and we'll be getting the big fishes in the boat"... We are going to get some really good talent in this class, but still realistically needed 3-4 more elite level guys to really get our program kick-started this fall. (assuming we are getting Wright)

I am optimistic that we do have a good coaching staff (although personally I still think it's dumb to have some staff coaching up positions they've never played before themselves- Weinke/RBs?) that will end up getting the most out of the talent we have. The issue is AL, GA, and FL continue to do a better job of pulling the talent needed, and we have to play all of them every year. The team culture and mindset must change for the upcoming season in order for us to really compete with everyone.

We will start to close the gap sooner than later, but I think it is going to take at least 3 more years to have a chance at getting to the SEC Championship game. It will be interesting to see how the staff sells/spins getting more elite talent after a 6-6/7-5 season, unless it is simply that we are moving up, but need their help to take the next step. I am still somewhat hopeful that Pruitt knows what he is doing with the OC search, and will bring us what we need. If he doesn't, and with the time that it has taken, it will probably be a huge red flag as to his ability to handle a power 5 head coaching position... we will find out soon enough on all fronts.

For now, we are a basketball school.
