Yeah that’s pretty much the model for our rebuild, IMO. Stay in the top 15, make sure to develop the studs you do land and put them in the NFL, make it so nicer bowl games and win a few big games a year for 3-4 years, and watch the results on some blue chips start to get swayed our way.

Idk if Pruitt’s gonna be the guy to do that for us or not, though. He’s gotta make sure to nail the offensive hire/hires he’s making this year from a fit and production standpoint.
for sure, might be most important Coordinator hire in UT history. Screw this up and it’ll be hard for Pruitt to dig out of, next coach will have much harder a job and the attractiveness will only go down.

Bottom line, 10 wins, Florida, proven coach.
Trading back and forth 11th in recruiting with unproven, 5 wins, Tennessee.
Nothing about that suggests his class here would have been anything short of sad. And definitely doesn't deserve "lol" at people pulling for TN.
I mean, there’s a lack of evidence either way. Recruiting rankings aside, he put together a hell of a defensive unit at MSU and had some offensive personnel that was suited to his offense really well.

At this point, saying he would have put together sad recruiting classes here is just as disingenuous as saying he’d have won 10 games here and out together a fringe top 10 class.

If any coach in college basketball deserves a title, it's CRB. Ambassador for the sport while doing it right for decades. His impact on the personal lives of the guys is incredible, all while keeping it real and fun. A big shout out to his staff as well, they are flat getting it done. The T will mean something in the sport for a long time now that CRB decided to be a Vol.

Which is what we are seeking in football. It took a proven HC with a strong support staff, most of whom he brought with him, to turn the basketball program around. Now, in it's 4th season under him, they are elite. It will take at least that long and maybe a year or two longer for CJP to do the same if he gets his staff right. Hence, the angst on taking this long with the OC selection.

Rick Barnes is a great fit for UT-- coaches his players hard but genuinely cares about them, pushes for athletic and academic success, loves and respects UT traditions, appreciates the fanbase, is good with donors, active in the community, gets along with media, is happy to be an ambassador of the university and represents UT well. He wants to win the right way. Pat Summitt was the same.

If Pruitt gives up control of the offense and gets someone who can be creative then i think he could have a great run here.

If he doesn’t and hires a yes man... then he will he will muschamp.

That’s where i stand on Pruitt.
Yeah if he goes the yes man route, I will dub him Skoal-Champ.

I’m under the impression that we’re never going to be consistently in the top 5 in recruiting the way CFB is right now. We may get a class here and there be we will consistently be between 8-15 no matter who the coach is. That is why i preferred someone who schemes outside the box like leach, Mullen, Gundy etc. i think it’s the quicker path to success here. I am encouraged by Pruitt seeming to want to go that way with his recent OC attempts in freeze and yurcich.

This is sort of why I was hoping for Chris Petersen going all the way back to 2008; he always seemed to be able to do more with less. And although I believe any decent coach would recruit well to UT (consistently rank 5-15), we would need someone that could do more with less occasionally in order to win consistently.

Didn't state that, re-read what you bolded.
I said nothing about that SUGGESTS.
No proof either way so, "lol" is beyond unwarranted.

Maybe not. But he didn’t stop the Grumors either.
Which was a hugely dumb error on his part. If he wanted to make Schiano happen, he should have nipped those rumors in the bud and not tried to get Schiano done within 24 hours of an embarrassing blowout loss to Vandy in Knoxville.

That being said, I’m really happy Currie was too much of an arrogant dips*** to get the thing done.

Talking about fail in football not have terrible lives off the field.
However, for all coaches involved, it is their careers. You cant get more essential to life than one's livelihood. For the players, it is often their best chance to be financially successful if they can parlay it into a pro career. Football IS life to football players and coaches. Wishing them ill in football is wishing them ill in life. Dont get me wrong, I wish them ill as well. But I face the fact that I am wishing them ill in their lives. It's part of buying into the rivalry of competition.

Big Coley fan. He mixes in a lot of innovation in his offense. Jet motion, RPOs, and lots of misdirection. Uses more of a mesh concept as opposed to vertical routes. Very QB friendly. Gets the ball to playmakers in space and gets the ball out early as to minimize sacks. Players love the guy

“Nothing about that suggests his class here would have been anything short of sad.”

So either you just worded that really badly or it’s pretty disingenuous. It seems to imply that his recruiting here ipso facto would have been sad and evidence is needed to refute that.

Familiar with you debate tactics, not putting the board through 3 more pages of semantics.
I'll bow out with "K".

Seems kind of tongue in cheek, but stuff like this is why I think it was probably a good idea to slow play the hire and focus on recruiting once Freeze was out. This time of year you never know who’s going to come open for a job and you may miss out on a guy you really like if you rush to hire someone just to fill the position.

Snakes are definitely not my forte, but I do know there are a lot of people out there who's snakes are smarter than their dumbasses

Caimans and tortoises are my tea shop, though.

Oh I've seen numerous people who keep a collection of foreign venomous snakes. They always end up getting bit. Every. Damn. Time. People don't understand that snakes are not pets. They don't wag their tail when you get home and greet you at the door. They just want to be fed and left to their own devices. Not to say you can't keep them but it's a different mindset than keeping a dog.

Caiman and tortoises, huh? That's an interesting combination. Any favorite species? Those big lizards have always fascinated me. Especially since their lineage is older than the dinosaurs.

I agree. Look no one is going to flat out beat Saban consistently with what he has at bama. So yea as long as we’re in the top 15 and have good coaching we can win 9-10 games here Bc most offenses in the sec are mediocre at best so Pruitt should be able to handle them.

I agree though evidence before us says somethng different......If I was truly a mid-lower tier historically in the confernece I would agree. But, were we not saying the same thing about Kentucky basketball / Cal 4-5 years ago. They win every year, they recruit one and dones so no one can beat them and they have rupp arena (fans).

The Barnes blueprint is there....recruit kids to your system, have them stick around, develope them, have some exceptional talent and then your competing not only on the field but in recruiting as well. Look at coach Barnes this year.....we have 4-5 stars visiting and seriously considering us.

I refuse to believe the same thing cannot (and will not) happen in football. We have recruiters, we have coaches that drive the kids to success (proven by Jordan Allen’s mothers tweet which is the best sign I have seen around here in a LONG time), we have an AD who has been there and done that, and we have a fan base that is ready to EXPLODE (evidence Thomspon Boling).

The ride is going to somewhat long but better days are ahead. Days that we are expected to beat GA / FL and Alabama 50% of the time! That’s the way it used to be and the way it will be. Either jump on the bus and enjoy the ride or be a Negasomething.

GBO !!!

Barnes example is iffy at best. You need a core of 3-4 of those 3 to 4 year developmental guys for basketball. You need 10x that many for football. It's hard to develop 40 people in anything regardless of resources.

lol ok. Sorry for trying to have a dialogue and make clear whatever point it was you were getting at. I’ll preface my post with trigger warnings for dialogue next time I quote one of your posts. Maybe something like:

“Warning: this post may attempt to make you reevaluate an opinion or rethink the wording of a previous post. Ignore if this may cause you emotional distress or if too mentally lazy to attempt.”
