Tennessee Football is done

Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me

You still have a roster that is ranked in the top 20 in talent. Your recruiting is going fairly well this year despite the field results. That alone suggests that you will continue to compete. Its going to take an earthquake in Tuscaloosa before anyone outside of Bama is relevant.

Program is closed to dead.
It’s not normal to take so long to hire an OC. This also shows no one wants to come here which means if Pruitt is fired the next coach is a Google coach again.

We are in a serious rut.

I think 8 wins maybe 9 is the new high ceiling moving forward.

It hurts me to say this, but it's time we face the facts as a fanbase. This program will never be relevant in the SEC again. At least not any time soon. Bama and Georgia are getting too many elite athletes at too quick of a pace and Florida is about to be dominant again with Florida State and Miami falling apart along with them having the 2nd best coach in the SEC at the helm. Combine that with having to play 1 other team out of the west every year and a decent South Carolina program that seems to be improving, and it doesn't make for a promising outcome. There's no reason to think recruiting will pick up any time soon either. 7-5 doesn't sell any better than 5-7 when you're going up against Florida, Georgia, Bama, Auburn, and LSU for talent. Not to mention very few proven coaches want to coach in Knoxville. There may be years where an 9-3 finish happens, but there's no possibility of us going to Atlanta over the next 5-10 years unless it's for a kickoff game
Kirby, zat you?

We can certainly get back to being elite. It's just not likely to happen in the next year or two. It'll take a great coach and some inconsistency by our main rivals (Georgia and bama). As long as hey are in top it's going to be exponentially more difficult.
But yes it really all started at the top. He fan base wanted the administration to throw 6mlion plus at a huge name. Hats what bama, Michigan, Texas, Ohio state, penn state, etc have done. It's by far the most proven way to rebuilding quickly. Going he value route with a first time head coach (or a coach from a smaller division) is risky and usually and usually isn't successful. We'll see what happens

We have to beat South Caroline, Kentucky, Vandy, and Missu next year. I'm worried about FL they are coming up fast. GA is loosing some big players to NFL. Honestly I think GA has peaked and will remain what they were under Richt with regular 9 win seasons. I know they are stocked, but they got handled by Texas what was that!!?. I'm not throwing the towel in. We could sign another 5 star lineman, sign To'o'to'o (or whatever his name is), and more who knows. Pruitt is landing some talent too boy so cowboy up!

Tennessee football is not dead! I see us winning the SEC again sometime in the near future. As soon as 2046 to be exact.

You are a glass completely empty kind of guy aren't you. I would hate to go through life believing there is no hope. Let's just close shop because we are in a down cycle that happens to all teams. You know, I am willing to bet big money Bama fans didn't have that kind of doom and gloom mentality when they were down nearly 12 years not too long ago. I bet you didn't handle not getting your way very well growing up.
