No offense, but this is a horrible take. Please, VN, I urge you — do not go to this place!

Turning on Pruitt is (a) not justified at this point and (b) completely counterproductive.

Learn from the past. Do not do the same thing to Pruitt that this fan base did to Butch (i.e. undermine his ability to do his job by promoting a pervasive narrative that he is not capable).

I’m impatient and want to see somebody announced (and will joke about it on here), but let Pruitt take his time, and support/hope for the best for whoever it ends up being. It’s all irrelevant until August 31 anyway.

I agree. I think anyone would agree that is comforting when they hire the right guy within the first week. However, hiring someone the first week does not equate to it being the right guy. It simply gives the appearance that everything is under control.

That being said, all we can do is wait, right now. If we are sitting here 10 months from now, saying how in the world could he have hired this clown, then we can certainly pass judgement on the process. I will have to say that Fulmer would also get a lot of credit/blame, because I believe he is the one who told Pruitt to take his time. Maybe that is only perception, and not reality, but I think many people will share that opinion.

I agree also that we have little reason up to this point to not trust Pruitt. I think he has made a lot of good decisions so far, and we knew that this was going to take a while. So, he has earned the right to have a fairly high level of trust up to this point.

I think a lot of people have BVS from the way the head coach search went down last time. We trusted the AD to have a good plan in place, and he certainly did not.

If what AV said is correct, we put all our eggs in the Yurcich basket, and when he chose Ohio State, our eggs got scrambled. We didn't have a back up plan, so here we go again.

I appreciate you engaging in good faith and not mistaking me for Catbone.

I've always had the sense that Pruitt was way more of a pure football coach and salesman than a program manager, but had hoped he had picked up some of that from his time with Saban. This search has made me somewhat nervous that he still has a lot to learn in that respect.
i think he does have a lot to learn in that regard. i did the day he took the job.

i think the good news is he's apparently pretty "coachable", cause he hasn't made some knee jerk reaction, and by the accounts i've seen, has taken every bit of advice given to him about this search, and is purposefully not rushing, despite having some things happen that he probably didn't want or expect to happen. if you believe ATLvol, things were pretty much there with Yurcich until OSU came calling. so that's not good news to see the guy you pretty much has your sights on, disappear before you get started.

in years past, when that happened, we just go until someone says yes. and we get Dooley or Jones.

things haven't gone like they wanted, i don't think there's much doubt in that at this point. but they haven't rushed in to something, and until they make a hire, and we see how the product looks at some point, there's really no reason to be upset, except that waiting sucks and not knowing is scary.

which is an "us" problem. not a Pruitt/Fulmer problem. yet, anyways.

Are you really comparing Texas high school football to college and the NFL?

If so, I can't help you man. Apples to oranges dude.

If we are all playing the game the same way the player with the best card wins every time. At some point you've either got to change the way you play or upgrade your cards. Quite frankly I believe upgrading recruiting would cost significantly more per incremental increase than to change how our players play the game.

The advantage that Alabama and New England have is process and execution. Aside from Lane's years of playcalling at Alabama they don't have a scheme advantage. It's the reason why Saban and Belichick's coordinators are typically unable to recapture the magic elsewhere.

Oklahoma just finished playing. They definitely weren’t in full search mode like we were for as long if even searching at all until after their season ended. I’m also in no way saying we can’t end up with a good hire but the way this is going is looking like a combination of maybe Pruitt is really indecisive, people aren’t sure about working under him, admin/AD are struggling through negotiations, etc.

I think you are ignoring the fact that Pruitt has been in all out recruiting mode. Why do you/we simply assume that he is not as busy as other coaches, just because we are not in a bowl game?

I think he made it clear where his focus was. Yes, this might be different than other coaches we have had, but I actually think it is paying off. If we are able to get top QB and RB recruits to sign on, without an OC in place, I think that is proof that his approach is working. Now, all bets are off of course, if he ends up hiring a dud...but we really won't likely know that until the season starts in the Fall.
