It is true that defenses will adapt to new offenses. It is also true that differences in offense can also translate to overall changes in scoring and yards gained, even after defenses adapt. There is nothing that says that this is a zero sum change. Given the choice I would rather have an innovator that puts you on the front edge of those changes.

Saban was able to drag his feet because of his superior talent. But goodness...how stupid did his offense become when he finally got a real QB and started using better offensive strategies. Bet he doesn't go back.
And yet.. with alllll that superior talent, and alllll that innovation..he almost got his ass beat despite having one of the best teams ever...

Because his all world starting QB got boo-boos and had a bad day...

and the old quarter of a century argument .. In 2045 those DC's will have a quantum DE that can cover the rb and qb at the same time

Entanglement will be a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down, but you can hide that fact by putting them in a box with some poison and never opening it. Schrodinger's gambit.

So recapping the OC search from the sounds of things:

- Talked to Freeze, likely that SEC said no go since he wound up at Liberty instead of anywhere else.

- Talked to Chip Lindsey, who quickly moved on to Kansas so we obviously weren’t interested.

- Interviewed Briles, wasn’t a fit. Went to FSU.

- Interviewed Lebby, never any traction reported and both sides seemed to move on. Could speculate that interview was actually more about digging into Briles’s baggage. Now he’s being mentioned as a potential candidate again?

- Interviewed and offered Yurcich. Spurned last minute when OSU offered him.

- Took break to focus on recruiting and holidays, also thought we had our guy in Yurcich (probably the 95% hire that DM reported).

- Rumored discussions with Sark and Chaney, conflicting reports over whether those were just friendly chats or interviews.

- Supposedly ramped up discussions with candidates, but we really have no idea who those candidates are?

From the AV tidbits, my guess is Fulmer was the “traveler” he mentioned. Probably needed him in town to make the offer to Yurcich. Use of the marshmallow man was due to the Yuricich guy who worked on that scene (no idea if he’s related, but the name is really similar so still close enough to be the point of the hint).

I have no idea who we end up with, but it probably needs to be someone that Pruitt can trust to just lead that entire side of the ball. I personally doubt it will be an inexperienced guy. Not sure how much recruiting prowess will really matter, I don’t think Yurcich is a renowned recruiter.

We're going to need you to re-write this. It's too long, too boring and simplifies all the hard work we've done in the past 40 or so days.

TIFWIW...add a little indignation, an occasional insult, a gif or two, and some offensive language, and I think you'll be on to something.

Hubbs just said that’s he doesn’t get the sense that Pruitt is close to a decision in the OC search nor does he think he’s in a hurry. Still. This may go till spring

Texas HS football has been the catalyst for what college and the NFL have been adapting. The big 12 has adapted to it years ago and recruits those HS players that know and practice that system year round they're whole lives so they come in and are able to kill it in college. Now the NFL is starting to realize it and adapt and many players who were always considered system players that wouldn't succeed in the NFL are now able to be very good at the highest level. It's not about comparing levels. It's about showing the progression and what the future of football looks like.

So high school coaches who come up with tweaks to the game suddenly revolutionize college football and the NFL? Got it.

You should ask Gus Malzahn how that's working out.

Football hasn't changed all that much since passing became mainstream. My point is: West Coast, Spread, I-formation, RPO, etc.... You need to understand them all and be able to incorporate them into your offense to fit your personnel to be a complete coach.

It's like chess. Certain strategies and moves can always be countered by different moves and strategies. You need to understand them all and adapt to your opponent to be an effective player.

This pro style BS I hear all the time is like people wanting to ride a horse still, when a 36 Packard zooms past them at 70mph. Hell even Saban is coming around to it with the only way to succeed with it (pro style) is to have superior talent. It only stretches the field vertically on play action.

Remember that Crabtree catch against Texas? Leach had the balls to hit a deep out when he didnt need that many yards for a first, but knew that grass would be uncovered. Show some balls and score some damn points. I'm getting tired of this ***** *** ****
THANK YOU

I honestly believe that he has intentionally chosen to stick with ground and pound and game managers specifically so he doesn't have to sweat guys like Tua getting ouchies. The problem is that everyone else has embraced new systems that put up more points and he has had to eat from forbidden QB fruit to keep up. That may well be good news for the rest of us, because QBs like Tua aren't exactly common and much more prone to busts. I'm sure he'll still find a way to stack them 3 deep, but if Saban has a recruiting flaw, it has always been at QB.

Didn't he say last night it was going to be done by next weekend?

End of the dead period

Um no, this has been going on for decades. I think you missed the point of what was being said. Thanks for all the tips on who I should ask and what I should know though. I'll get right on that. NFL and college don't really ever invent anything. It's almost always evolved from what is happening at the high school level. Natural progression and what not.

I think the offensive coaches he's targeted and hired in the past give a strong indication that he is pretty forward thinking offensively and doesn't simply want a clock control defensive offense. Nearly everyone of them have been known for creative and explosive offenses.

Except for the guy who actually ran the offense, Helton. He was about as forward thinking as Knute Rockne

How I see this class finishing (as of 1pm on 1/4/19 - likely to change multiple times before nsd)

Darnell Wright
Charles Moore
Chris Russell
Jammie Robinson
Dwyan Griffin

Puts us at 24 signees.
honestly, i think that'd be a pretty good finish. getting Wright and Moore. i don't think anyone would balk at Russell at this point, and i have always liked Robinson. i think he could be a player.

Griffin is a project, but whatever.

Are you really comparing Texas high school football to college and the NFL?

If so, I can't help you man. Apples to oranges dude.

Are u really ignoring where this spread airraid formation sprung from? If it was the way you claim then colleges and a quarter of the nfl wouldnt be running these concepts and DC's would have figured it out and shut it down.

Leach and Mumme stole some concepts from Lavell Edwards, tweaked them, High school coaches picked up on it, Tony Franklin developed an easy dvd 3 day installation system and marketed it, it exploded in Texas along with 7 on 7 tournaments, experienced players filtered up to the growing number of colleges adopting it, Mix in a little Malzahn, Rich Rod, and RPO... and there you have the evolution of modern football

You're welcome, now take a lap

Saban knows he’s going to win Monday night and is retiring, and Pruitt is going to replace him, isn’t he? We are about to get set back another five or more years, aren’t we? My cup is on and has been reinforced with heavy duty steel. I’m bracing myself.

I’m fighting the feeling that this job is too big for Jeremy Pruitt.

Or he may actually believe that the OC is less critical than running the right scheme with the right jimmies and joes. He may be right. Time will tell.

I'm sure that Fulmer can explain in unambiguous terms how to do it wrong and what the cost is.
