So, about that OC position.... (Merged)

You can honestly say Tee is a good hire?

Tee would of been considered a home run hire just last year! He has constantly been one of the best recruiters in the country and as soon as he begins to have a successful offense will start getting HC offers from some of the mid-tier programs.

This would be a bad hire on so many levels.

If Tee came back, I would be ecstatic. I understand he spurned us many times, but he's still Tee, and a great offensive mind. I think the more VFLs we have on staff, the better.
Maybe he has a great offensive mind. Never seen that demonstrated at any of his coaching stops. Whoever Pruitt hires is going to be talking football in the interview and Pruitt will recognize if the candidate has a clue.

Major Applewhite would rather go to Miami than Tennessee? I suppose it is possible the administration never contacted him which either means they have someone better lined up or truly are completely incompetent. I really do think this whole thing may be FUBAR at this point and I generally have been the guy that thought this was all part of a bigger plan.

I’m grateful to him. Applewhite as OC would have turned me into a negavol.

I think Applewhite would have been good. Houston's offense is not the reason they fired him. I definitely think it would have been a good recruiting hire and definitely a safer bet than Friend.

1) Vol fan hive-mind

Upon entering the stadium each fan is given a clicker and digital playbook, we vote for every play madden style and hopefully make good choices together. It'll be like having 100k live analysts, sure some people will make poor decisions but like Vegas collectively we can get it right.

2) The reanimated corpse of General Neyland

We find the best witch-doctors money can buy and bring the general back. We wont tell him about inflation so he'll be super cheap and the hire will likely come with alot of good will. Con would be bama feeling pressured to bring the bear back turning the 3rd Saturday in October into an undead dual.

3) Matt Canada

Eh, he'll do.

I’m just here for the daily meltdowns / potential euphoria after each new name . If @Freak offered coffee and doughnuts , I’d never leave .

I normally would agree but I would not criticize anyone at this point for a meltdown. This has lasted too long with no information. We are watching competent OC's come and go. Considering our track record the last 10 years I think it is safe to assume the worst.

Lebby is the name being kicked around on TOS and after some research I think I really like it. Guy has had some serious success at lower levels and he's worked with Art and Kendal Briles previously. I do think it's a risky hire compared to the other guys mentioned, but I really like his upside.

I agree, but you can't post that, or it'll cause some to freak out. Then they'll scold you about how this is Tennessee, and Pruitt isn't Butch, and how we have some top secret oc coming, but they're just waiting to announce it.

I agree (know that means a lot to you lol) T Martin ,I'm sure, can talk football. He was a good, not great, QB with a ton of talent surrounding him, I can find no evidence he is a competent OC. Applewhite, I have less confidence in. After 40 + days ,I'm in no hurry now to find out who Coach Pruitt hires, maybe it's an internal hire, maybe a complete unknown, but whoever it will be I'm going to support.

I'm leaning towards either 1) no one wants it. 2) Pruitt botched it, 3) a combo of both.

I'd imagine they are not saying anything to prevent the massive meltdown like the HC hire.. but sometimes you gotta give a little bit.

If what LWS is saying is true then it seems Pruitt is in over his head and we are dealing with Lyle 2.0.
Seems he’s so dead set on running his 90s offense that he only wants an OC that will do what he wants and nothing else.
The fact that every, open up the offense, type OC has been talked to and immediately moved on from tells me we will be a team of few wins the next few years. This Power Run prostyle O has been played out and even Saban has realized, even with superior talent, that it won’t get you to the top. Is with far inferior talent will be doomed except for the couple games a year where we match up against poor run stopping Ds.

I agree with you totally, that's why ga will never reach the top unless they change their offensive scheme. The reason less miles is not at LSU. You can have a winning season but not championship seasons unless you have far superior talent. The ala. Ok.game bama up 28 to zip, went to clock control offense and allowed ok to get back in the game. Bama only had 10 pass attempts in last half. They could have scored 70 points if they stayed with offensive scheme they started out with.

I’ve never seen his recruiting acumen. I arrived in Texas in 95 and was a fan of him as a player. I believe he COULD have been a promising coaching mind, but his popularity and the respect
for his intangibles rushed his opportunities imo. Two seasons as a GA, one as a QB coach, then he went on a 3 season OC run with 3 different programs culminating in Saban’s first OC at Bama...his first career STOP sign. Left before he got fired and since he’s either been an OC or AHC at any of his subsequent stops. Results meh to worse. Bonus that he banged a student athletic trainer at Texas after he became Co-OC. Herman had worked with him as they both ascended through the ranks and threw him a bone after he had long passed him. Herman calls his own plays so the ceremonial OC role at Houston got him headed in the right direction but once again! UH flubbed it up buying the act and Too Much Too Soon part 7 got green lighted and they passed on Todd Orlando for the guy that’s never been ready. Glad we “missed” on this one. Larry Scott was more deserving.
