After taking some time off during the holidays, Pruitt has worked the search this week. He’s had conversations with people. He visited with his offensive staff early this week. He has also spoken with Steve Sarkisian in some capacity. Some close to Sarkisian believe he would prefer to stay in the NFL if the opportunity presented itself, but it’s not a given he has that chance.
On Wednesday, Pruitt visited with Matt Canada but sources say Canada is not the direction that Pruitt is expected to go.
Pruitt didn’t visit with anyone on Thursday as he and his staff spent the day watching recruiting tape for the class of 2020 before returning to the road after the dead period.
One name that has re-emerged and continues to linger is UCF quarterbacks coach Jeff Lebby. It’s been almost a month since Pruitt interviewed Lebby and most thought that ship has sailed, but multiple sources have told Volquest that is a name to keep an eye on.
Elsewhere, Tennessee and Tee Martin have had conversations but it’s unclear what that role would entail or how serious those conversations have been. One source told Volquest that it could feature a co-offensive coordinator title. Martin is also in play at Louisville as the wide receivers coach. Georgia Tech is a potential landing spot for Martin as well.
The question is who else has Pruitt talked to? Are other names out there as well? All of that is to be determined, likely in the next week, as we expect the search to be over before the dead period ends a week from today.
