Pruitt Speaks to SARK and CANADA

I love Pruitt doing it his way and not giving one crap about what the fans think. This won't be a hot take, but the guy is a good leader. I just don't buy that there's no one out there willing to take 1.5 million dollars to coach offense. He'll get it done, and he doesn't feel pressured to do so by the fanbase. Butch would have, Dooley would have, glad he doesn't.

Booooooooooooooooooooooom!!!!!

I hope you're right.

Of the available/remaining candidates, I think Sarkisian has the most upside. There are legitimate concerns/risks, but I believe he and his family realize he cannot afford to slip or he’s done for good at any real level of coaching. That being said, he is a strong recruiter, superior qb coach, and quality college play caller. Sarkisian makes a LOT of sense, but why have we not got him signed if he’s been approached? I don’t think it is delay on our side. He does have options and I don’t blame him for taking the time to weigh those options before committing to one. Given his transgressions and recent firing, this next career choice must work out. If I’m Sark, I look at every option and choose the one I’m most likely to be successful at. Unfortunately, it may not be us. Not to mention, the pro game doesn’t put him out recruiting constantly. That is not the ideal environment for someone fighting the daily battle against the sauce.

I want to trust our coach to make the best decision, but am honestly wringing my hands as we watch so many strong candidates be swept up. None of us has more riding on this decision than coach Pruitt, so I trust that motivates his choice. He’s forgotten more about football than most any of us. I do not profess to know what any of our decision makers are thinking, but I hope it is a hire I’m excited by and believe is best for UT. For me, at this point, Sarkisian would be that hire. Of course, that’s just my opinion and you know what they say about those.

GO VOLS!

I think the roadblock is simple, Pruitt won't break up his O coaching staff and I would NOT do that either if I was him.

We have some really good teachers, coaches and recruiters on our O coaching staff and Pruitt worked hard to recruit them to come to UT and coach with him and we're just starting to see more good recruits coming to the hill so I would NOT break up tkat good O staff either.

We all know that most coordinators want to bring in their own staff but since that's not a option at UT then that makes hiring the right OC even more difficult for Pruitt.

Even not having a OC Pruitt and our O staff have done a really good job recruiting some really good O players so far.

I'd rather have Osovet with Friend helping him and bring in another Pro style staff member to also help out than to break up our O staff of good recruiters.

That's easy to do with Osovet to coach RB's with a grad assistant to help with RB's and Weinke to coach QB's.

Weinke won the heisTman and won a National Championship as a QB so he should have QB recruits lined up to sign with Tennessee as our QB coach.

Just seems logical to me.

VFL...GBO!!!

You can personally believe what you want, but 247, the best in the biz imo, confirmed it. For whatever reason it didnt work, but we took a legitimate shot at him.

I just think if offer was made, who in their right mind would take a qb and passing coordinator job for less pay than being the sole oc.With that said maybe Pruitt wanted him to run his offense and he didnt want to do that. No one really knows we are all just thinking or guessing.. and if we really wanted him why wait till ohio state opening came up before offer was made.

I think we'll probably interview some more people but if Sark decides he doesn't want to work in the NFL the job is probably his. I'm not sure whether he'll want the grind of recruiting though.

I would think that CJP is being asked the question about hiring an OC by every Offensive recruit he is talking to and I also think he would be telling them more than is being leaked by “sources” so it’s not like the TN recruiters are just avoiding the question and looking dumb to the recruits. If that were the case we wouldn’t have signed as many O recruits on ESD as we did.

Good point. I am just anxious for a hire

Sounds like we have 95% left to do and 5% done.

Don’t like that we are just now getting around to talking to people. I want to get the right hire, just don’t understand how this isn’t a priority for him to get this done.

I think this has been the longest OC search in college football history.

We are glad to announce the promotion of Coach Will Friend to Offensive Coordinator. Coach Friend has no prior experience as an Offensive Coordinator, but we have been friends from way back. Coach Friend will enhance an already deadly offense that scored an amazing 13 points against Vanderbilt

In his defense, he was OC in title at CSU and running game coordinator at UGA in 2014.

Of course, how hard is it to coordinate a running game with Nick Chubb and Todd Gurley in the backfield.

the Oklahoma State site is the only place that said there was an offer. No Tennessee sites could confirm that an offer was made including our 247 site. If he turned down an OC offer for more money than he got at the OSU and less responsibility, probably best for UT

I think was like $950,000 and I know we would have offered more. And I agree with you on it is probably best for ut if that happened.

Hubbs said today that he offered Yurchic and Yurchic picked OSU.

Per Hubbs JP wanted in order 1) Freeze but implied he wasn't able to get him for outside reasons. 2) Yurchic but he picked OSU. He didn't want Briles after the interview and he didn't want the QB coach from UCF that he interviewed.
