Of the available/remaining candidates, I think Sarkisian has the most upside. There are legitimate concerns/risks, but I believe he and his family realize he cannot afford to slip or he’s done for good at any real level of coaching. That being said, he is a strong recruiter, superior qb coach, and quality college play caller. Sarkisian makes a LOT of sense, but why have we not got him signed if he’s been approached? I don’t think it is delay on our side. He does have options and I don’t blame him for taking the time to weigh those options before committing to one. Given his transgressions and recent firing, this next career choice must work out. If I’m Sark, I look at every option and choose the one I’m most likely to be successful at. Unfortunately, it may not be us. Not to mention, the pro game doesn’t put him out recruiting constantly. That is not the ideal environment for someone fighting the daily battle against the sauce.
I want to trust our coach to make the best decision, but am honestly wringing my hands as we watch so many strong candidates be swept up. None of us has more riding on this decision than coach Pruitt, so I trust that motivates his choice. He’s forgotten more about football than most any of us. I do not profess to know what any of our decision makers are thinking, but I hope it is a hire I’m excited by and believe is best for UT. For me, at this point, Sarkisian would be that hire. Of course, that’s just my opinion and you know what they say about those.
