I tend to think the off field issues had something to do with passing on those two. Both had some baggage.
Yeah, but the question was who we were disappointed we didnt hire. I was disappointed they had enough baggage for us to move on from them

I remember several years ago when a playoff and its details were being debated. One of the concerns was asking fans to travel back to back (to back) weeks. Would they do it in sufficient numbers? On the other hand, I don't think this is a fair reasonable test. If it was in the southeast as most bowl games are there would be no problem.

And then there's this: why are we judging a game based on the unfilled expectation that AFTERMARKET ticket prices are in the thousands of dollars? Currently the average is ONLY five-hundred and something. I get it. But it's sad that some would deem it a failure because fans won't pay ridiculously jacked-up prices. When I attended our NC game in AZ in 99, I bought my ticket there. I paid face value, $100. That game was not a failure. Perhaps somebody has gotten a little greedy.
Great point.

I would've been okay with him but I'm not disappointed we didn't get him. There's still plenty of good candidates out there is my point. Is there anyone other than Yurcich that you wanted that's been hired already?
i didn’t want briles especially with him having to have a couple assistants. I think freeze would’ve been a great hire but probably looking again in a year or two.

it's almost as if CPF and CJP don't know how the hiring process works....they're just kind of dragging their feet. No urgency whatsoever....

LMAO. I've seen some questionable posts on this forum, but this one may take the cake.

I was ok at first but now I am getting impatient because other teams are making staff hires.

Sounds like a "you" problem.

It appears to me that we are chasing our tail. But one thing that stands out to me is that CJP has a lot riding on this hire. This hire will likely decide either how long he will be here or how successful he could be. We just need to exercise patience and give him the time he requires to make the best fit hire.
exactly. it can't be lost on CPF and CJP how important this hire is (regardless of how overrated CJP said the position is lol).

if they're not sure about someone, don't hire them. and definitely don't hire someone out of fear.

like i said, if we get the right guy...nobody will care, and we'll move on. the only way this gets to be a thing is if we hire a dud.

then all bets are off.

no pressure.

CFB just doesn’t lend itself to Cinderellas like CBB. About the closest you will get is a program like Oregon that isn’t a historical powerhouse, that gets an infusion of resources somehow. Then those resources make it one of the powerhouses, so its a catch 22. CFB is just such a resource intensive sport, and combined with an apparent glass ceiling for G5 teams, it’s going to be impossible for a Cinderella to break through in the current climate.

Oh I know but at this point a Cinderella would be ANYONE not named Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma, or tOSU.

I think the NCAA had a new crop of Cinderellas ready to roll when folks started running the hurry-up/no huddle offenses. Sumlin/Manziel, Freeze, and Malzahn ate Bama's vaunted D alive with it. However, rather than forcing Old Man Saban to adapt or kick rocks, they changed the rules under the guise of "safety."

It was the one strategy that neutralized Bama's stockpile of talent, and they just couldn't have that stand for very long.

I dont know why everyone is sweating the Sark stuff, we have already hired Chaney weeks ago. Havent announced because Pruitt wants to troll the **** out of everyone
Waiting for the championship game because it’s someone on those staffs, waiting till after NSD so our new OC can solidify the recruits to their old school, waiting till after spring practice to see what type of personnel we’ll still have to work with, waiting till fall camp to take the edge off the July humidity...

I’m sure they have a reason. Hopefully it’s a good one.

It’s a fair statement and not a shot that a first time AD and first time HC is struggling a little with making a big hire like OC.
To be honest I don’t think Phil is very involved in this from an administrative side. He’s almost like an advisor more than a boss.

Because they refuse to give them a shot. Not because they couldn't compete. G5 is 7 and 4 against P5 in major BCS/NY6 bowls since the BCS started. I know I know. Those 7 P5 losses were because they weren't motivated right? As far as the resources go, that is the reason the P5 doesn't want the G5 to get a shot. The difference in payouts keeps the resources flowing to P5 and they don't want to give that up. The fact that the playoff committee is comprised almost entirely of P5 employees and has zero representation from anyone in the G5 shows the real intent of the system.
