Yeah, but the simplest answer is always the truth. This job isn’t unique to other jobs around the country like we want it to be. When something takes 40 days and other places got it done in days. It’s because there are issues behind the scenes.

Every single time we have a search of any magnitude we all convince ourselves there’s a master plan and everything is fine because the new guy (Dave Hart, Dooley, Butch, Currie, Fulmer, Pruitt, etc.) is in charge and they’re way better than the last guy! The truth is that there are very few secrets in this game.
There are. Go be your own man like Gundy and promote a guy like Yurcich, then support him and stand behind him.

If that's Osovet then effin sack up and call your shot. I think some of the delay, most of the delay has more to do with Pruitt not knowing what he really wants, or wanting his cake and eating it too like no staff spots.

I don't think there was a master plan, I just don't think Pruitt is as desperate as fans are.

He knows there is a lot of people out there with a good football mind, I think he just wants to find the someone interested that also has the other things that he's looking for.

Yurcich is the only one that can even be argued but getting a 500k+ raise is an upgrade imo

Sark is fired and if it's Chaney it's because Smart wants him out imo.
I don't disagree with this but that also agrees with the general concept.

Lol. I agree with whoever said there likely is no master plan. Wether Pruitt is sweating that fact I have zero clue, but if this were a plan it would play out different.

I think it's pretty obvious we were never going to hire an established homerun hire like Shoop.

Some think Yurcich would be that but I don't compare Ok state to a Penn State.

Right, but what I mean is - when something smells like **** it’s because it’s ****.

Auburn made a bad hire because everyone knows Gus is a dead man walking.

We’re having a hard time hiring an offensive coordinator because it’s a tough job made even tougher by a meddling defensive minded head coach, an offensive line coach who the head thinks is deserves to call some of the shots, and a roster a couple years away from putting up impressive “counting” stats that will springboard you to a head coaching job. It’s not because we’ve just been playing it coy to be cute and we’ve had our guy the whole time.

All told, I’m still confident we’ll make a good hire. We pay a lot of money and big time college ball is really fun. But we’re either going to hire a Friend-of-Pruitt or we’re going to pluck someone’s QB coach or lower level OC.

Maybe I’m talking out of my ass. I don’t know anything either. But this is following the same pattern everything at the university of Tennessee follows.

1) opening occurs
2) big names are mentioned
3) supreme confidence in our decision makers
4) big names fall away one by one
5) question the decision makers
6) make a somewhat underwhelming hire
7) “our decision makers are idiots and we’re screwed”
.
.
.
8) “ya know what, the more I think about this the more I like the hire”
.
.
.
9) “I think we should compete for the east this year”

No doubt. There’s no panic at all from Pruitt and Co. and there shouldn’t be from the fans either. Plenty of good names out there.

In batting this around, and mulling the declinations, or those likely declinations we will never hear I think Osovet or a guy like Grass is our best choices.

Once you are at that level whatever comes next seems manageable.

Getting that OC hire wrong the 1st time could break Pruitt's career here. Glad he's taking it seriously.

Is a guy like Streeter with Clemson a better pick up than Friend or Osovet. Likely the better debate/discussion than Sark vs Chaney.

Pruitt speaking with Canada today. Idk how i feel about that. Dude has a bad rep. Hard to imagine him and Pruitt getting along based on LSU situation.

Really thinking about taking up drinking

Hopefully Fitz can get the strength program back to the heights of Coach Stucky. His strength and conditioning knowledge still runs deep. Bama fans can thank him for passing his knowledge to Coach Moffitt at LSU who then mentored Scott Cochran. I remind a coworker of mine who is a Bama fan of this tidbit often. He doesn't wanna hear it.

Pruitt has to get some of that pixie dust they use at Bama if we ever expect to compete with them on the field. Those guys are so much bigger and stronger that anyone in college ball.

There's a lot of truth in what Kingston just said and I agree with all of it.

I'm F5-ing like every other coaching search for sure, and I'm just tired of not knowing a whole lot of what we're gonna look like next year, but here's what's keeping me grounded:

Even if we pulled off the Freeze/Briles/Yurcich hire, we were still going to struggle next year behind a young OL. No matter how much talent and what OC we bring in, we're not going to leap from 120th in yards and scoring to top 30. Not saying it's a lost season on O next year, because we have to improve at least some. I just think that improvement will be a given just from having the support staff there-- Friend, YAC, Nieds, Wienke.

We just need a manager to call the plays.. Which a LOT of folks can call plays. Staff chemistry and continuity is at a premium as well as recruiting, and I don't think that's going to be the hottest name out there.

Part of me is uncomfortable with how long it's taken, but diligence takes a while (especially during bowl season).

I'll only really actually start worrying if we kick off Spring camp without a new hire. That'd be weird.
