UGA did not look interested in that game in the first half. Texas has a good coach on their hands. I think LSU will regret not pushing more for him, at least in the long term. I really like how their DC, Orlando, called that game.

I think the targeting rule needs to be addressed this off-season.

Also, I heard Blackledge state that he thinks Clemson going against Bama again (four years in a row) is good for college FB, but he didn't really give a solid reason. I don't agree, but can anyone maybe explain to me what point he was trying to make?
he took the stance that Clemson and Bama are the standard in CFB and that it should bring the rest of the game UP to their level.

not sure how that really works, but it's certainly one way to look at it. he mentioned UGA and OU as being "right there" as well.

he was just short of saying that someone needs to start knocking these guys off though........lol.

People love to hate the mighty. We need a worthy villain.

I read somewhere that Neal Brown isn’t getting hired at a large school because he is insisting he bring his whole staff with him.

And yet if not for two poorly thrown balls that should have been TDs and a bunch of drops...UGA would have won that game and had a ton of Passing yardage. I thought he fouled up not helping Fromm get in a better rhythm. And his run calls were clearly not good, and he never adjusted to what Texas was doing.

In all...Typical Chaney called game, some brilliance and some dunce.

Fromm was definitely off. He made some horrendous passes. But when I look at the 2 offenses, I’d take Texas’ offense everytime. They got the ball to their playmakers quickly and often. Ga was always on their heels and never really stopped them. I also think the interception by Fromm was on him. He was trying to make a play and made a bad decision.

I just think their are 15 or more qualified candidates for OC that most of us don’t know about that would be great here. We’re jait used to the same 4-5 names. Tim Beck. Anyone heard of him before last night? Probably not and he called a great game.

It seems like his recruiting is mostly what folks are coveting and paying him to do. He went to FSU, coached at HS in Miami and then at FSU and Miami. My guess is Smart wants Cheney to be the OC calling plays with his experience and Coley to be the ace recruiter but had to pay him and give him title to keep him around. Makes sense.

I'm back wanting Cheney in Knoxville as OC. Let Smart promote the recruiter ace who's not as good calling plays. I like that outcome. Or even better, Smart goes and gets an outsider to be OC and Coley gets pissed and leaves. Yes, lets do that instead!
that's it exactly. still makes me wonder why they haven't re signed Chaney yet. maybe he did turn down an extension b/c he's upset at having QB's taken away?

either way, if it comes down to what UGA would choose, they'd choose to keep the recruiter.....

for us, right now where we are, we need more of what Chaney (or Sark for that matter) brings to the table as an OC than we would the ?'s Coley would bring in the same position, despite the recruiting prowess.

College football needs storylines bad. It’s one thing the NfL has over them. Bama clemson gives them that which is it good. But yes It wouldn’t surprise me if Texas is in the playoff in the next year or so.

Having the same story line 4 years in a row seems like it would eventually alienate the rest of the college FB audience. At some point, the majority will stop being interested in that match-up. I think Blackledge was saying that it's good for CFB because they are the "target". They are what everyone else is trying to achieve. I didn't think that argument was very good.

LSU threw the works at Herman. He was plan 2A...hail mary for Jimbo Fisher being 1A. They didn’t have a plan B. Hence the butthurt accusation of not being played for higher salary. Truth was, soon as that Longhorns job opened up, he wasn’t going anywhere else.

Said it at the time and time has made it troof. Houston screwed the Coug by falling for the Applewhite as OC hood dressing. Orlando would have killed it there and should have been the one to get his first HC opportunity. Herman’s always called his own plays and Applewhite was a glorified ASSISTANT QB coach (Herman coaches his own QBs too)

Read alot on him and havent seen that yet, not disputing it I'm just ignorant of it

Never been his biggest fan, but I liken it to the Barnes hire. We were bleeding then...and now?

This is probably how I feel. He made some odd calls in his first year at UGA. But he is a stabilizer, and we could do worse. I always thought he knew how to scheme the TE. I think he made Mychal Rivera money.

agreed. LSU whiffed on their dream coach, twice, in back to back seasons.

i think it's definitely a large part of the equation, yes.
If that’s the case, I say bravo.

Recruiting is by far the most important thing to the program over the next couple of years.
If it is... i hope he’s wrong.

If it is, the guys we’ve been rumored to have interviewed don’t totally fit the bill of known elite recruiters.

But it could point us to some of the guys we’re talking to that haven’t been leaked yet.

Serious question...you're talking like Coley is some hotshot amazing OC that everyone's dying to hire to call plays...Where is this coming from? He's 45yo and previously was an OC at FSU and Miami for a couple seasons each, and then WR coach at UGA for a couple years according to his bio. If he's so great why did Jimbo let him go? Why didn't Richt hire him at Miami?

I think it’s silly we dismiss someone’s ability simply because so and so didn’t hire him or Kee him or take him with him to the next place. Sometimes it’s just a change of philosophy or a different voice or change of direction and has nothing to do with the person’s ability. I’ve hired people who were less experienced than others but their personality meshed better with the team. As a HC you have to know your staff and what your trying to accomplish. Just my 2 cents...
