Extremely rare?!? He's only had one undefeated season at Bama. Assuming they get by Clemson, this will only be the second.
He wins the national championship at Alabama more often than he doesn't. Let that sink in for a moment.
Saban has gotten a lot of help from the media and these committees. Any other team don’t make their own conference championship game and they aren’t even in playoff discussions or before that championship game discussion. But yet he’s gotten to play for a national title without winning his own conferences division multiple times.
Nick Saban is such an unbelievable coach that people think he should go undefeated every year
He has 20 losses in 12 seasons, 6 came in first season, 5 national titles, playing for a sixth, tied with most national titles by any HC in history, and he did it in the most competitive era.
Thank God he won’t coach 38 seasons like Bear
Urban Meyer went to the playoffs without winning his division. Try again
You literally questioned if he was “that good of a coach”, and @Ulysees E. McGill said he shouldn’t have lost a game after 2012.You are amazingly good at putting words in other people's mouth. I didn't say he should go undefeated every year, I said his losses aren't "extremely rare" and since 2012 they were always to less talented teams. Objective fact.
Complaining about bias is always a good way to argue why a coach isn’t the bestHe’s on that same pedestal for the media and committees. UCF went undefeated for 2 regular seasons and still couldn’t get in the playoff. Bama loses to a team that lost the conference championship game and made the playoffs. Same goes for Urban. I was honestly shocked they weren’t put in the playoff this year. But I guess when the choice is a team that lost to Purdue or a team that lost to Texas and is led by the heisman winner they couldn’t put them in over the 4th undefeated team without being blatant about their favoritism so they just went with OU.

oh is that why he beat like 5 top 10 teams at MSU including a #1? Or beating us in 01? Or Uga in 2003 with like 4 1 round picks on that team?:sigh: My point was clear, and had nothing to do with his championship success. He beats teams that he should be beating. He wouldn't do that if he didn't have a talent advantage. Good coach. Great recruiter, program builder, and player developer.
you mean him beating top notch teams almost yearly with an awful team at an awful program? And leading them to a 10 win top 10 season? Utah ? You mean the team in the MWC?Sorry but to me the ultimate test for the greatest coaches is the NFL. The talent level is very close and that’s where it comes down to coaching and controlling the team. Belichik is hands down the GOAT, Saban needs superior talent. Look at his MSU days. At least Urban was able to take Utah to an undefeated season. Saban couldn’t even do it at LSU. It wasn’t until he had superior talent to everyone else that he could finally manage an undefeated season.

NFL and college football are two very different beasts. Doesn't make for an adequate comparison.Sorry but to me the ultimate test for the greatest coaches is the NFL. Yea recruiting violationsNFL and college football are two very different beasts. Doesn't make for an adequate comparison.
When Saban was at Michigan State, wasn't he hampered by NCAA sanctions brought on by the previous regime?
Even great talent has to be coached. I'd think the Butch Jones' years here would be proof enough of that.
