SARKISIAN FIRED

Pruitt: Hey Sark old buddy sorry about losing your job. How you holding up?
Sark: I’m just hanging around burning it down, sipping on some old Jack Daniels and jamming to some old Alabama....

Sark would be a homerun hire at Tennessee.

Hope he is the guy, if he is not so be it. Just seems to make a lot of sense for him and Pruitt to be in same staff again. Both know what’s expected of each side of the ball & recruting.
This line of thinking is beyond me. I can't see how anyone who keeps up at all with the NFL, and thereby knows the precipitous decline the Falcons offense exhibited under his tutelage, would then think he's a desirable OC. This is not like head coaches who failed at the pro level but then excelled in college; the HC position requires a myriad of other skills apart from playcalling, and is profoundly different at the pro level than the college one. Being a coordinator, conversely, is, unless I'm missing something, largely the same at both levels: you're either good at getting results with the players you're given, or you're not.

I don't know of a single instance where a coordinator failed in the pros and then went to college and killed it. I'm happy to admit my mistake if anyone can cite such?

And, even the coaches such as Saban who bombed in the pros and then were great in college, had previously had marked success at the college level at some point. Sarkissian was ostensibly one of the playcallers for USC very briefly when they were good; he's never excelled anywhere else, and his last HC gig was a spectacular failure.

Freeze never did anything but light it up on the field, and yet people on here were saying we shouldn't hire him because of things that may or may not have taken place twenty years ago. Sarkissian was fired for being openly drunk at practice less than three years ago, and now he's a home-run hire?

He must have the same publicity team as Kiffin.

don't think the all the firings are done yet...lots of choices out there...:D

GO VOLS...RECRUIT LIKE HECK!

Believe part of the difference between Shoop's time at UT vs. everywhere else he has been, including MSU, is he had "his" guys with him. At UT, he had to work with Butch's best staff in America.

after Butch promised him he could bring in his guys year 2 if year 1 didn't work...

@lifeisdeep

Man that was a lot of observation’s on his NFL game to miss the fact that Matt Ryan had a good #’s year and Devonte Freeman one of the best backs in the league missed almost the whole year.

If it is Sark, I doubt UT will have to pay more than a million for him, probably less. He is still being paid by USC any monetary employment is offset by his USC buyout. In short, he’s on the cheap until 2020.

I agree and would like the hire, but my question is, would Sark have too strong of a personality and possibility butt heads with Pruitt? Especially since he has “been a HC before at a big time Power 5 school and coordinator in the NFL”. I wonder what he would do if Pruitt jumped his tail like he did Helton on the sideline.....

That’s messed up, it’s why Auburn is messed over on offense, if you hire a guy, you have to let him do his job, and that includes his guys that knows how his system works.

You thought the same about Schiano...

Given the risks with hiring him, Id think he would be a good (not great) hire. Im not as big of a fan of the hire as some but he has big time experience, which is sorely needed with this staff. Id much rather have him than others (Friend)...
That’s where I am. I’m a Falcons fan and am glad they let him go. Yes they ended up 10th in scoring but they have top 5 offensive NFL talent and Sark was a huge step back from Shanahan with basically the same team. The Atlanta PPG dropped by double digits. With that said, some people are more suited to the college game and he does have tremendous experience including as a head coach of a major program and an NFL offensive coordinator. As long as his personal issues are behind him he would be a solid hire and likely not one that would become a head coach again in the next 3 or 4 years.

I think if your a great coach in any level of football, you have a strong personality. It’s very common. And at least Pruitt has worked with Sark and knows what he would be getting and if he could work with him if he chooses him.
Only worked together OC/DC, one game, correct? But yeah, should know his personality.

@hUTch2002

Do you not think loosing Freeman had a major effect on this year offensive output that was still even minus Freeman in the top 10?
I’m not even talking about this year. Last year he had Freeman all year and, frankly, had a bad year. Sark had good moments this year like the first New Orleans game (even though it was a loss) and had some bad like the Philly game. There’s a reason they let him go though. Granted, Shanahan was one of the best offensive coordinators I’ve seen so almost anyone was bound to be some kind of step back.
