any hire he makes could turn into a mistake.

Jones hired Bob Shoop who was up for coordinator of the year this season in college football. But at Tennessee, he was a mistake.
In case you didn't research your due diligence, I must inform you that Shoop was "handcuffed" by Jones in his time at UT. Shoop has succeeded in every stop, except at Tennessee. Have you researched this evidence, or are you speaking from blind evidence?

Aren't you speaking about blind evidence by saying that Shoop was handcuffed by Jones? Where is this documented?

the reason it was a mistake doesn't matter. it was a mistake.. it didn't work out... doesn't mean Shoop is a bad coach, just that his hire was a mistake...

Yeah...now I'm worried.

Vaunted Has Latin Roots

The verb vaunt has been used since the 15th century with the meaning "to make a vain display of one's own worth or attainments"-in other words, "to brag or boast." Over time, vaunt developed the meaning "to boast of (something)," as in "the promotional flier vaunts the natural beauty of the area," and gave rise to the adjectival form vaunted. The history of vaunt and vaunted leads back to the Latin word vanus, meaning "vain" or "empty." (The word vain itself is also a descendant of vanus.)
Overthinking doesn’t have to be a bad thing...but...

In this case, it means the head man was responsible for the mistake, not the person who was subjected to false accusations.

I see your point. But if its a mistake because he just wasn't a very good coach, thats different in the sense that you hired a guy not capable. Or you made a mistake. If your handcuffing a good coach theres not a good hire out there to be made. Essentially anyone you hire is a mistake or won't work.

???

head coach made the hire which turned into a mistake. just like Kifin hire, Dooley hire, Sunseri hire, Jones hire... all mistakes. made by multiple people but mistakes. For all we know at this juncture, Pruitt might end up a mistake..

that would be true. A head coach or an AD have to assess any hire for fit within program, fit with who is making the hire, fit with the staff, the players... its why I admire Pruitt taking the time on this. He is working hard to get a fit that will work and not be a mistake.. JMO

But you said in your post that he (Stoops) was the mistake. So, what is it you are saying here? It was Stoops fault or Jones fault.

he was the hire which ended up being a mistake. That doesn't mean he is bad, just a bad fit within Jones program.

Anytime a person is hired and it doesn't work out, it would be the person making the hire who made the mistake. Helton was a mistake. Now he left on his own but everyone recognizes that didn't work and was a mistake.. including Pruitt.

Apologize for being vague

Agreed. Not all hires are the same. In the case of Shoop he wasn't a DL coach that was being promoted that may have needed a little extra attention until he got comfortable. He came in well experienced and well thought of as a DC. If you can't leave him alone, you re the problem or mistake.

I think Pruitt needs that type of guy he can leave alone and if he's going the extra mile (with time) to make sure he has that guy, I think he's doing himself and the program well. He needs to turn over the defense as well. I believe the added attention he has to place on calling the D will stunt his growth as a coach/manager.

Believe part of the difference between Shoop's time at UT vs. everywhere else he has been, including MSU, is he had "his" guys with him. At UT, he had to work with Butch's best staff in America.

Really? Did you like the lack of progress of the team over the second half of the season? Did you like the progress (or rather lack thereof) of the OL? Did you like the progress of the D throughout the season? Did you like the way he failed to adapt his "system" to the talent he had? Did you like the way he handled the Sapp situation? Did you like the way the team played against Vandy? Lots not to like at this point in time. I'm not even close to sold on him, but still hopeful he is THE guy.
Go cheer for USC

Just look....research? It is pretty widespread knowledge. If one or two say it, I am skeptical. If 7-8 say it, I am willing to believe the evidence

You are doing the exact thing that you are arguing against. There is no real documented proof that Shoop was handcuffed during his time here.
