Major Applewhite

Like any business priority 1 in the UTAD office is to make a profit on an on going basis. That requires giving the fans a reasonable bang for the buck. UT graduates 10s of thousands of new fans each year. Despite loosing fans thought poor on field performance, the base grows and the money flows.
To become a hard core fan you need to experience one or two great moments in football. I had the Mirical at Southbend, the beat down of Miami and the 98 Championship to lock me in. I have been a fan ever since, just waiting for that next moment. We have been a decade without an event that locks fans in. Having not had one we are loosing fans.
When TN won that natty, I said never fire Fulmer, no matter how many down years we have. He will raise the team from the ashes. I still feel he will, because he is a football player first, and an administrator second. We never should have fired him.
You may not like Phil, but his heart is in the right place. For the time being it is Phil that separates the football lovers from the pencil pushers. For the time being the pencil pushers see support waining and are supporting Phil in restoring athletics, to boost the cash flow.

What does that have to do with Mr Applewhite? Nothing directly. It does mean that CJP will get whatever he needs to hire the best OC he can attract.

I reviewed applewhite’s Resume. He seems ok but I don’t see a superstar OC in the making. He has managed his career well, moving frequently to get out of bad situations and into better ones. The guy jumped into coaching early. Had some reasonable success at lower levels but sputtered as the competition grew.
I haven’t seen him work through a tough spot except the one year early in his career.

I don’t think I would put him in a sink or swim situation.

I have officially reached the point where I just don’t care. We will hire a google coach. THe pumpers will applaud the hire. The negas will call it themselves worst hire in history. And we will be between 5-8 wins next year, never looking dominant and often looking horrid. And 102,455 will pay hard earned money to watch. Fulmer stays on the money train (he just missed out on the REALLY big salaries) Pruitt and his Friends make bank. A couple of Vols are drafted and we are all somehow amazed how they were underutilized at UT. And the stadium expands and so do the administrations’ bank accounts.

This is Tennessee Football.
I agree

BVS is real.

well, hell, guess there's no use watching the Vols anymore...was hoping for more suspense, maybe a more competitive season, and possibly a nice bowl game, but you just blew that...thanks...:D

GO VOLS...RECRUIT LIKE HECK!

Sark>applewhite

HC experience & a elite recruiter Sark is.

Pruitt needs a OC he can just let be the CEO of the offensive side of the ball.
Doesn’t want to happen what happened last year, having to babysit the O during the game and at practice

Did he tell you this himself?

Did you pay any attention any this year to Tennessee football? Pretty obvious to anyone with any football knowledge, or a set of eyes that during games and practices Pruitt has to break away from running the defense or at practice to watch over the O. Even to the point of explaining durning games to Helton down, distance & what the score was based on his play calling.

One year into Pruitt's tenure... with no one knowing who the OC will be or whether it will be a good hire... and you make a post like this as a statement of "truth"?

The truth is we don't know whether Pruitt is a good HC or not. We don't know whether they'll hire a good OC or not. We don't know if they'll develop players and improve the program or not. Being biased to the positive or the negative based on assumptions on things we do not and cannot know... isn't "truth" or realism.
Look at the history of this administration and you tell me what you expect to happen. The truth is everyone expects instant gratification and is not going to happen at UT. No one is going to spend the money or take the chance. So everything I said wad truth is the truth until otherwise proved wrong.

It's hilarious that people cannot see the truth in this post and they choose to bash the party instead of accepting it. Honestly the fans need to make a statement and show the university that this piss poor ******** they are allowing to represent them on the field needs to change and until they should expect extremely low attendance.

I've never understood how this line of thinking is supposed to work - you cut off UTAD revenue...and then what happens?

Do you think Phil and Pruitt are just sitting in their offices yucking it up on how they're getting rich off all that swet, sweet UTAD revenue, while doing minimal work? They are just hoping the fans keep comin and they're happy winning 5 a year, if that means less work for them! Will low ticket sales make Pruitt say, "well, shoot, better start tryin now!" Does it signal the university to go hire some pro-football AD? Then does that guy go hire a real ball coach with sec and championship experience?? If only!

Do players play better? Does Pruitt work 90 hours instead of 85?

These guys aren't business men. They aren't cutting costs and trying to be slumlords. They're ball coaches and winning is all that matters, not your almighty windfall donation to the university. If money is motivation, Pruitt earns on winning games and titles, not for donation quotas. No amount of extra money is going to make us immediate winners and no amount of restricting funds has ever done any good. Low attendance won't do anything but create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You mean the AD that has been here all of less than 1 year? Oh yes, all that history.

He already hired a no-name d2 coach with zero big boy football and championship experience after having Saban and Belichick begging to come here. But we had to turn them down on the grounds of not being serious about winning. We had to remind them we only do this for the lulz.

We are so cheap that our janitor doubles as our S&C coach and Phil doubles as the team nutrionist. Worse yet, we already lost our S&C janitor, Dave "Power Clean" Jones, to the Canadian school for the deaf. Horrible, this administration.

No. Truth is truth. You cannot prove it "otherwise".

The administration hired Barnes, right? A lot of people considered him washed up.

Pruitt was a pretty risky hire that seemed to come from another fairly risky hire... Fulmer.

I'm no insider. But from the distance it looks like there was a significant power shift over the last few years and peaking with the coaching search debacle. The window may not be that large... but there appears to be one.

Finally, they are "taking a chance" whether they hope to find someone who has talent but not the resume to command a large salary or they hire a "name" that may or may not work out. Either could result in erosion of the fanbase and ultimately revenues. Someone spent the money to bring Shoop in to save Jones. I think that was a very poor gamble... but it was an expensive shot. What you claim isn't "true" in the absolute sense.

You seem to be complaining because someone is making business decisions that have to be made. There will always be a choice of which risks are more acceptable. With Pruitt, the lack of proven HC ability was balanced I'm sure against his price and what someone deemed his prospects of being a good coach.

AS FOR TIME... that isn't completely controlled by UT's choices. UT has to recruit out of state to compete. They're competing with in state schools AND with other schools who may have more recent successes. UT simply cannot afford to keep a coach who isn't impressing recruits. There are a few lesser ways to do that... but the main things they want to see is wins and draft picks. Even with draft picks... you need wins. Pruitt or anyone else needs to win... and do it within 3 years. That could mean the East or it could mean some big time wins over top tier teams. Whatever it is... recruits need a REAL reason to believe things are going in the right direction or they'll stop coming.

PS- The successful UT HC is going to have ability but also catch a break with some underrated players that become stars. I don't believe in luck... but "the Guy" is going to be someone who recognizes talent that other coaches miss until they can compete for the ones wanted by everyone.

Immediately, if not sooner, we need to hire an O.C. who can turn goat piss into gasoline, and chicken salad into chicken sh!t. Until that time comes, we need better players.

I think you're moving in the wrong direction, bruh.

The truth is, it really won’t matter until we have better players, unfortunately
