Majors was up and down because of recruiting. Sound familiar? Sometimes he clicked with the better prospects and sometimes he didn't. Even with locking down the state, back then there were not enough quality players, so they cast a wider net than most. With Majors' personality you either liked him or couldn't stand him.

Eh. Dabo won his division in year one and conference in year 3. His team just wasn’t elite till later on

I recall Dabo being on the hot seat until he made some changes (hired Chad Morris as OC) and got his offense straightened out. I mean, the natives were calling for his head on a plate. With some big wins in '11, he was able to hang on and turn things around.

If I remember correctly, he was on the hot seat because people thought he was an idiot and he made a lot of clock management mistakes.

It wasn’t all results based at that point. They’re lucky they didn’t pull the trigger.

2 years after the '86 Sugar Bowl, we started the season 0-6, finished 5-6. Went on to win SEC in '89 & '90. Roller coaster, indeed.
If he had lost one more game in 88 he would have been fired, but they went on that streak and then won the SEC the next two years. Those last few years were remarkably consistent by Majors years standards.
