Not sure how my comment is policing thread, but since you asked, probably a six wib season I guess. I dont follow recruiting so dont know much about that. Only thing I know about it is we ranked about nid way through sec. Given our coach cant seem to coach about recruiting level, id expect us to be a mid / lower tier SEC team. Cheers. So, do you have an opinion on how 2019 will be or are you just policing threads tonight?
The coaches that end up being considered legendary may achieve that level by picking their spots as much as anything else. Saban cherry-picked the Bama position knowing that his potential success would be greater there than almost all other places. Stoops pounced on the Oklahoma opening. Urban Meyer picked schools that recruit themselves. Dabo is an outlier, though Clemson has been solid historically. No one gets more international support than Kelly's Notre Dame program. The pipe dream that Pruitt will have anything much beyond .500 success at a run-down program that was never that great to begin with (pre-integration does not count because recruits don't care) is predicated on TN being elite. That has never been true. 7-5 in a good year will have to satisfy the various stakeholders, but at least there's the Vol Navy.Of course he is. But trying to say that the only reason Pruitt has a great reputation is because he latched on to good coaches is beyond foolis.
Coaching search...AD promises the world. We hire an up and coming "rising star". It is beaten into us the new coach has a good pedigree or coached under a great coach. Great recruiter, players love him. He wants to be here and that's what is important.
Then the wins don't come, recruiting busts, player issues abound, and the dumpster fire reignites.
Then, we do it all over again.
LOL!!!!! Funny how the tune always changes on here when it comes to defending our coaches. Same thing happened with Dooley and Jones. Btw, your profile pick is still my favorite Navy helmet. He did do that, but in sure those coaches thought he was good. But again, not a hc.
But of course you are the one that said he should be fired for only winning 5 games. Lol...old threads are a mutha aren't they?

With this class I could see 7-5 if they play cards right and call right plays. I just hope we start improving instead of regressing yet again. Another poor year and Pruitt might be on thin ice....6-6. I'd feel a lot better if we had a decent OL. Even with the new guys coming in, it will take them time to develop into SEC OL.
And he was able to recruit quality players more easily because
South Carolina sucked
Georgia's borders were wide open to us
He didnt inherit a team with a losing record
He dodnt have a losing record his first year.
He had a Heisman trophy finalist to point to when he sat down in living rooms
AND the most important thing was he had a big name recruit land in his lap because his brother could no longer play football.
Pruitt has none of the above in his favor. So comparing their situations isn't exactly valid.
I'm going out on a limb and guessing you have not been following the Vols for very long? Johnny Majors had a national championship under his belt when we hired him. He also had several years of HC experience.Weve never hired a HC with the resume half as good as Pruitt
You left out the part where reasonable criticisms of the staff and players is greeted by a significant portion of this board with “you’re not a REAL fan” or “go find a new team”.Coaching search...AD promises the world.
