I've personally witnessed more than a few individuals who went stark raving mad at someone or something, even when they knew in their heart of hearts it was 100% their own fault. His job is to confirm, confirm, confirm before he writes. He's not to be trusted.

Rarely is Hyams right, but he closed his eyes, swung and hit a single on this one. Just stated the obvious.

Too much is made about Pruitt saying the OC in overrated. He knows as well as all of us that the OC is very important. Many of us on VN can't take a joke and don't recognize a tongue in cheek comment.

I agree on someone he's comfortable with...I personally think it's Sark or Chip Long from ND, both who he knows. If it's Long, you'd figure announcement Monday after they get beat by Clemson...but my guess as good/or bad as anyone.

Idk that he even meant it that way. I think he meant that an OC doesn't matter if he doesn't have quality players to coach. We were in the middle of trying to close some players before ESD and the media and fans were lossing their minds about us not having a hire in place yet.

Whether Pruitt likes it/wants it or not, this hire is now going to be in the national spotlight. I think there is a reason for this tactic. If he didn’t want it to be a big deal or didn’t want a ton of publicity, he would have made the hire weeks ago, and if it was underwhelming, he would have quietly done it at seasons end with a quick sweep under the rug. Pruitt knows this is a huge hire that will most likely make or break his tenure here. And it is now going to be one of the most covered coordinator hires in the past 5 - 10 years. I gotta think there is a strategy behind this that is just beyond my understanding.

Strategy is probably simply the guy he wants to hire is still playing. I believe NFL teams generally don't allow coaches to interview while their seasons are still ongoing.

He goes off what he is told. My guess he was asked to leak it and it backfired. Given UT hiring history, ill side with they screwed it up.

Well, when you are favored by 17 and lose double digits, I’d say it doesn’t look like he had the best game as a HC. Totally different situations except they are exactly the same, meaningless bowl game. You might want to call all the many schools that continue to try to hire him tho (as 1st choice mind you) and tell them your expert advice that he really isn’t a good coach.
