And the more I think about it, I don’t know why Yurcich would give up entire control of his offense - with a better offensive roster in Stillwater (for a short time anyway) - to come here.

Hubbs says it ain’t dead so I’m buying it, but just seems unrealistic to me.
Does he have entire control at OSU? He seems to work well with the concepts Gundy already had.

Yes we do.

Run it between the tackles on first.
Run it between the tackles or pass to the flat on second.
Pass on third and long, usually take a sack.

That was last year's philosophy. Trying to execute a power run offense with not enough power runners behind a porous OL didn't work out so well. This year, coaches are telling recruits we're going to be a "pass happy" offense and spread it out 3-4 receivers wide. We didn't have the personnel for a power run offense last year and we didn't recruit for a pass happy offense this year.

If this were a movie, we'd be at the Act 2 turning point, restless and anxious to see how it all resolves to give us a Hollywood ending.

I’m not particularly high on either one because I don’t see this job as one where an offensive coordinator will be hired to have free reign of the offense. And as such I’m scared will have mixed messages on offense like we did last year.

And both of those guys are head coaching candidates - not sure I love the idea of having to replace either in a year or two.

I might agree more with Yurcich making a jump before Sark would.

Per that David Ubben Athletic article, Gundy doesn’t even coach the team in practice. Yurcich has full control of everything on the offensive side and Gundy watches from the stands.

Probably - but just because I don’t think Sark would jump for a low level job.

Yurcich was all about the Akron job this year and didn’t get it. That lets me know he wants the head job anywhere he can get it.

Pruitt basically said without the players an offensive coordinator is about as important as air. Meaning you need good players. Which is where he stated the OC isn’t important in recruiting because kids usually commit to the head coach not the OC, because of how often they change.

You are the one having a hard time deciphering what Pruitt was saying.

I know exactly what Pruitt said.

He said the OC was overrated/not all that important and that is more about the players. You can say he wasn't being literal but your take was way off base. The article was much more accurate than you.

Yea, I expect it to change. I was just being facetious.

He has pretty good job security where he is as well.

Lol, okay hombre 👌, if you say so.

I may be in the minority here but “power run” based offense is such an out dated term and honestly just saying your offense is archaic or unwilling to take risks.

I can’t think of one good offense pro or college who uses 22 personnel or a heavy packages as a staple to their offense.

The fact is Pruitt is right.

If you don't have players who OC is is overrated. The problem is the OC elevates every roster if they are good. Helton didn't do that this year and that is why we didn't go bowling.

Jimmies and Joes can win us 8-9 games but we better get a damn good OC or elite recruiting won't do better than we did under the last staff.

I don’t disagree, but what we’re debating is what Jeremy Pruitt prefers and what kind of coach his going to hire to run his preferred offense.

This discussion shouldn’t be what you or I think is the best hire. It should be what do we think this stuff looks like through the lense of Cornbread.

I kind of agree but I do love using multiple TEs. And teams that utilize the TE as a receiver a lot. Always been one of the most underrated positions in football IMO. But yer right, you can still base yer offense out of power runs with spread formations. Art Briles system is based on power runs but people don't tend to realize that because of the formations. Creativity is the most important thing.

What's funny is none of us have a clue what kind of offense Pruitt prefers. We just think since he is a defensive mind that he wants a slobberknocker 3 yards and a cloud of dust O.

I actually don’t think he wants that. He is too aggressive in going for it and stuff. Nothing about screams conservative.

Yea same. I’m cool with using one. Assuming our OL gets a lot better by default. We actually have a pretty good 11 personnel returning. (If WRs return)

Exactly. I don't think there's any evidence that's what he wants. All of the offensive assistants and OC candidates he seems to target are the opposite of what people assume he wants to run. To me it seems like he wants to be able to run when he wants to and especially be able to pick up short yardage with the run, but also have an explosive downfield passing game.

If I were a defensive coach, I would want an offense that is either going to score so many points that the score board blows up, or an offense that holds the ball for about 40 minutes per game and averages 21-24 points per game. Then your defense doesn't have to be perfect and it allows them to play looser.

Of course I am not a defensive coach, so.....
