We don't know enough to make this statement. Until JG shows he has consistent skills behind a competent OL, we don't know what he will do. I refuse to believe that AU was scripted. Much of that was receivers making plays. KY just got outplayed. I hope we are in a position that we can give him more time to slow the game down and see what he can do. Only then can we say for sure where he stands.I doubt CJP tries that this year. He'll roll with what we have. QB aint our #1 problem. Who knows, if one of the FR can take his job, then I would be elated. Just because we've upgraded the position.
JG is hot garbage as a QB. It’s really not more complicated than that.
I’ve said as much before. I’m just done pussyfooting around it. He just isn’t very good. Great kid. Tough. But I don’t equate effort with actual performance. Too many on here do, and that’s pathetic.Aw, that's a little harsh. He's a tough kid who gives his all for Tennessee. His all is just not enough. He is not athletic enough or fast enough to make plays on his own and he struggles to read defenses, see blitzes, go through progressions, and his delivery is too long. He is the best on campus at this point but he does not inspire confidence nor does he make his team better. He's a 5-7 QB with an SEC ceiling of 7-5, 8-4.
I root for JG but he is not the next great UT QB nor is he in the top 10 of UT QBs since the mid 60s, when the Vols gave up the Singe Wing.
Couldn’t the same be said for the ol actually blocking and receivers who can’t get separation because of sloppy routes / lack of speed? I guess I’m still having a hard time saying he couldn’t be Tamaurice Nigel Martin with the right cast around him. He certainly wasn’t a great QB but he did ok for UT cause he had great players around him. No peyton for sure but I just don’t think you can say definitively how good or bad JG is because of the lack of competence around him.I’ve said as much before. I’m just done pussyfooting around it. It’s a perfect storm of ineptitude, but for some reason, many on this board exclude JG from nearly any criticism.Couldn’t the same be said for the ol actually blocking and receivers who can’t get separation because of sloppy routes / lack of speed? Fair enough, but that intentionally disregards how a quality QB can overcome some deficiencies. Our o-line is historically bad, but instead of making decisions that can help him, JG exacerbates the issues.I don't think people exclude him as much as there are just so many other issues more pressing than QB play right now.
You just simply have no idea what you are talking about. Its funny that no one that is a professional agrees with you. Also 80% of the poll thinks he did ok to great. 40% good to great. Maybe you should just realize you don't know what you are talking about.Fair enough, but that intentionally disregards how a quality QB can overcome some deficiencies. Well, he wasen't killed on hospitalized so I guess he had enough skill and talent to survive the Oline we had the last two years. We don't know enough to make this statement. Until JG shows he has consistent skills behind a competent OL, we don't know what he will do. I refuse to believe that AU was scripted. Much of that was receivers making plays. KY just got outplayed. There's the problem though. You just went from "some deficiencies" to "historically bad".Fair enough, but that intentionally disregards how a quality QB can overcome some deficiencies. Our o-line is historically bad, but instead of making decisions that can help him, JG exacerbates the issues.
I’d rather trade 13 other OL. QB could have been Peyton last year and he’d have struggled to lead the team to more than 7 wins. This time next year it will be better to judge JG, with what should be upgraded OL.There are 14 QBs in the SEC that anyone would take over JG. The only one that you wouldn't is the KY guy. Alabama has at least 2 you would take. Actually Georgia has at least two. He is not a QB with the "it" factor. Regardless of his stats.
So I hardly see how its equitable of you to say JG is the whole or most of the problem. Maybe you aren't, but when you say Historically bad OL wouldn't it be fair to say JG is in a no win (literally) situation. Most on here have admitted that he makes some bad decisions but so do a lot of mid grade QBs. There were numerous times if he stepped back immediately after the center snapped to heave the ball to the sideline, to avoid a sack, he would have gotten sacked before he could do it. If he doesn't have time to find a receiver, when he changes coverage the blitz STILL doesn't get picked up, checks out of a run play cause there's 8 defenders in the box, it wouldn't matter if Joe Frickin Montana was back there. It’s a perfect storm of ineptitude, but for some reason, many on this board exclude JG from nearly any criticism.
Maybe, and I’m just spitballing here, I’m not referring directly to you when I’m talking about the JG fanboys? There's the problem though. You just went from "some deficiencies" to "historically bad".
Besides....Why would anybody care about disregarding any aspect of why we sucked? I've got no vested interest in protecting anybody. If I thought JG was a huge problem, I'd say it. It's not like we're related or something.
